Post Your Desktop Thread **56k**

haha I've made a custom wallpaper for every Alienware I've had :D

Mind you what am I talking about? I've been doing it for years tbh. I remember doing a 3Dlabs and Voodoo one for my PC in 1999.

Just made a new desktop.

here is mine. you could argue that the image is of bad quality, but it's actually quite important. i am curious who will know what this is.
i keep nearly nothing on my desktop, it's really crowded atm really :D
atm it's my cod4 cfg, a folder in which i put all my downloads before i put them in the right folders (i find it quite convenient to do it that way), a .txt which has some song titles in it, a cod4 server, a bc2 tool i wrote (it's simple VB06 garbage) and two launchers for Q3.
I like my taskbar small, pinned to it are the taskmanager (f*ck ctrl + alt + delete), chrome, skype, xfire, TS, steam (i added all of my games to steam), Qtracker, procon, dxtory, speedfan, cpu-z, afterburner, gpu-z, dvdvideosoft (i only use that to convert movies to my phone) and adobe premiere.
i got a second screen, but it has the same wallpaper and no icons on it.
TL;DR
my wallpaper

exactly!
/edit
i would like the successor, but unfortunately i couldn't find it in a decent resolution

What is decent resolution for you? Highest I could find was 2382x2078px (official linky).
I doubt there's anything higher-res out there, the official NASA and ESA sites usually provide
very-high res TIFF files if they have them (as in: I've seen and downloaded a 26 GiB TIFF and
several multi-GiB ones).

First time I see someone but me using
the hubble ultra deep field as a background! Nice one! ^_^

It's a really beautiful (and important) image, but I prefer my backgrounds to be a little less busy.

I wrote a few scripts last fall that crawled certain ESA and NASA as well as cooperative projects'
websites for high-res images and downloaded them. After running them for two weeks I had
accumulated several hundred GiB of high-res space pics. Part of the reason why HELIOS
will have 24 GiB of RAM is that I actually want to look at those pics

EDIT:
Might as well post my desktop. Random fantasy sci-fi wallpaper I got from wallbase.cc

Looks quite nice if I may say so. There are some pretty awesome fantasy space pics out there.

seems like i just didn't put enough effort into it, all i found was some 1000xSomething bullshit. i might take that picture, cut it a little so it is in a 16:9 ratio and use it as my wallpaper from now on :)
ohh, i also forgot to mention in my original post that i have a desktop slideshow, which also includes the sombrero galaxy, a lot of other messier objects and the pillars of creation.

+1 for Swedish Cars (1999 Volvo V70R in laser blue here)
Nice, if i didn't have a saab i'd probably have a volvo T5. That 5 cylinder soundtrack is always worth a listen. Mine is a 1995 900 turbo which i've slowly been live tuning, presently sitting at 265hp. Yours ought to be near enough that as standard though.

Happy to be of service :)

The Pillars of Creation are one of the most beautiful pictures in the history
of humanity imho. But there are so many more pretty space pics

Yeah, the 5 cyl does have a lovely sound to it. And yes, mine has 265 HP @ stock voltages .
Previous year's model had 250 IIRC, but not sure.

oop, i wrote towers of creation? pillars of creation of course! and yes they are beautiful, but i find the hubble (extreme) deep field image a lot more inspiring.

Thing about HUDF and XDF is that there's pretty much nothing more
ancient that we have ever seen (at least not in this much detail),
and that to me, is... food for thought, so to speak.

Thanks AW

Yeah, there's a ton out there. I had to sift through a TON of pages on Wallbase to find that one. My res is 1080p btw, if anyone was interested. Running a 23" HP IPS panel (2311xi). I really would like to get a second monitor, but my current desk can't fit it.
