new conky, replaced pypanel with tint2, setup ramdisk & using nitrogen for desktop background

(downsized by picasa from 1920x1080)

Love how it uses 186mb of RAM where windows uses over 1gb on boot

imo this thread should have some rules on image sizes etc

Linux user here.

Was running full gnome this morning. Now using openbox XD.

I still have gnome installed but use slim instead of the GDM.

Parts of my openbox setup rely on gnome but hopefully I will be able to slowly phase this out over time.

I am using nautilus as my file manager right now but that may change to thunar soon.

Anyways, screenshots:

Clean:

Dirty:

(I know my IP's in it, its dynamic, and has changed by now.)

Using the following:

tint2, conky, rhythmbox desktop-art plugin, parcellite, Dropbox, obmixer.

wow your mem usage is massive for openbox

would guess that conky and nautilus are taking up a lot of the mem tho

still nice to see someone else on the forum uses linux, think there's only a few of us

F is free mem mate. The used mem in that screenie is 616 Mb and that's with Firefox and Thunderbird minimised in this workspace and Transmission working away in another.

Also I'm running cairo-compmgr for compositing so I think its quite reasonable.

I should really edit my conkyrc to make it clearer XD.

Just checked and Firefox, thunderbird, rhythmbox, dropbox sync, and transmission account for most of that usage.

Interesting, but I'm guessing you're using pretty much pure openbox, whereas I've dragged a lot of gconf over.

I have quite a lot of stuff running
biggrin.gif

My pure openbox install was 80mb of used mem on boot

I have cupsd, mpd, xscreensaver, thunar (daemon), numlockx, parcellite, nvidia-settings, tint2, nitrogen, 2x conky configs, tilda (hotkey console), cairo-compmgr & chrome running. Also have my chrome profile on my ramdisk using rsync.

Most of my configs and scripts are on my github (altho I've not sync'd changes for a while).

I'll have to start keeping track of my configs with git. I've only ever used it for webdev TBH, and I've never used github, must give it a go.
