Guess this is a way of comparing roughly how well different HDD setups perform so...post em up!

2x Samsung Spinpoint P120S 200GB, RAID0 (sata2)

Single Spinpoint Vs I-RAM

Hi K404, good post mate, if everyone posts there hard drive speed then we can all see what is the best.

my Hitachi drives bench.

Ok these are the benches of my two drives - would have come out even better had i defragged em and not been downloading some stuff to the drives and dual folding at the same time.

Sorry for the pic quality, its resized from 1600x1200....

Top score is my brand new 80gb seagate sata2 OS drive (32gb free)

Bottom score is my old 200gb seagate sata storage drive (1gb free)

Nice maverik, yes can see the Random access is a lot faster, cant wait to see the new raptors Random access speed and burst speed.

Aren't the new raptors slower than the 74GB raptors Sacha? My samsung spinpoints get 268mb/s

Nick: are those the 250GB models? I`d love to match Sachas times...why are the deskstars doing so muh better?

Hi Kenny, yep the 250GB ones. I'm not sure why Sacha's drives are so good. Out of interest do 3 drives in raid0 give the best performance?

I`m not sure. I dont know what the performance caps are after seeing Sachas burst speed>300MB/S and mavs burst speed >150 with his raptors.

AFAIK, the spinpoints and the deskstars both have 125GB platters, so on paper, I think they`re more or less identical?

I guess performance will keep increasing, but value for money will start to drop noticeably after 4 disks, assuming more than 4 can be combined in a single RAID.

Hi My bench was with only two Hitachi drives in raid0, i dont know enough about why my discs are faster but could it have anything to do with my memory banwidth as you all know i run a high memory speed, so could it be that more data is able to run though.

A small boost from higher RAM speeds, but nothing like the differences we`re getting. Other Deskstar owners at XS are getting similar numbers, guess the Hitachis are just better than the Spinpoints!:O :O

Hi mate done anouther bench with just under your speeds, and yes your right the Hitachi does look faster., but as you can see i have lost some speed due to the extra bandwidth off the memory

Hi mate are these the same as mine sata11 drives or are they the sata1, as your average read and Random access is a little bit lower than mine.

There the original drives b4 sata 2 came out but they have the sata 2 firmware:D

Looking good, for the originals, some improvment with a firware update

About 50% burst speed:D & about 10% average read:D but rundom access time slowed about 1ms:?

What stripe size are you using mate i'm on 32k
