Because my 250GB 840 Evo is very far past the total data written amount that Samsung recommends*:

This whole install took too long as my BIOS didn't support it. Luckily Asus had a new Beta BIOS out that added support for it :D although I now don't seem to have enough 'lanes to support another HDD on top of the two in there (plus this new one).

*still not dead at all.

A HDD doesn't take up any lanes so you should be fine.

On a side note, Special offer of £1 for a 1 month pass on the Windows store so took up the offer, Gonna play some State of Decay 2, Forza 4 and some Sea of Thieves :)

One day I will try one of those monitors. Like, the stupid high refresh rate ones. I actually don't mind gaming on my little 20" Apple Cinema display with the VSR set to 2560x1600. It offers amazing visual quality which is far less strenuous on the eyes up close.

It makes things seem really smooth, As my 2 main games of choice are Elite Dangerous and Fallout 76 I don't really need anything higher than 1080P and as it's 24" everything is within my vision :)

Asus ROG Strix XG248Q 240Hz Freesync 1080P 24".

That stand though... If they would only do this monitor design, but with the specs and stand from the PG278QR, then it’d be an instant buy from me. As this tripod design just looks like that new Z tower design from In Win.

I'm Vesa mounting it so the stand is irrelevant as I finally got myself a Silverstone Vesa desk arm :)

Also snagged an older model Corsair Force GT 480GB for £50 from the bay.

hmm I never trusted the old Force GT. I had 3 catastrophic failures in the space of 3 months to the point that Komplett.no got sick of the RMA and stopped selling them.

Careful with that one if you are putting critical things on it.

It's just for games :)

Started picking up parts for a small upgrade looking to get a Ryzen 1700 and 16GB ram to start me off, it feels time now that first gen prices have come down and my 2500k is aging somewhat and I feel this will be good for the price without breaking the bank, now if amd could just get their GPU's going nicely as well then I may part with my MSI SLI 970's

Thanks tom the review on 2500k and 560 ti's back when I upgraded lasted me so well but it really is time :D

Make sure to get the latest bios for that board, I had trouble getting anything higher than 2800MHz to run when I had that one, Switched over to the Crosshair and could run 3466 out of the box.

I checked into that the board did have updates and I looked online and others showed that 3200 ran ok with the same ram I'm going to buy, but you are right to warn me was somewhat aware of the ram issues so did take the time to look into it fully.

Just hope it works nicely I checked the QVL and peoples posts so hopefully it'll be fine.

I'll most likely have it up and running early January just grabbed the board now since it's the hardest part to come by of the 3 parts when stock is going to start running low not surprising given the prices are almost half. =00=

I can confirm - having got that board from day 1 - absolutely update the BIOS, the day 1 BIOS was a pile of... yeah.

On the RAM note, mine was rated for 3200MHz but it's not in the QVL and the best stable I can manage is 3066MHz

Well I guess my chances are a tiny bit higher with newer bios and QVL but if it runs lower then I will live with it, it can't be worse than what I'm using hopefully :D

I'm a staunch supporter of irony and U-turns, so I present to you my latest purchase, a Vega 64 Red Devil.

At the price I got it for it was irresistible. Bit of a risk because it's ex mining, but then it won't live a very hard life.
