I dropped on a Gigabyte M27Q Monitor, 170Hz IPS panel with built in KVM switch, it arrived literally as I'm just about to leave for work *eyes roll*, the monitor arm hopefully arrives tomorrow :D

I did it, I finally did it, I went all out on this one.... RDR2 ^_^

Still trying to figure out if I want a new monitor myself or not.

I have a 32" Acer 1440p 165Hz G-Sync but it's not HDR and people keep telling me I am missing out because "It's the best thing to ever happen to gaming" problem is I am not willing to pay the Asus tax for a monitor that probably will only last 1 or 2 years before the panel fails or psu fails as per my experience with Asus monitors.

Most monitor's that I can find that are 32" 1440p, G-Sync or Freesync and 144Hz or above are either not HDR or HDR10 which apparently is not even HDR.

It's a minefield.

I wouldn't mind a 32" 1440p or 4K 144Hz or 165Hz G-Sync or G-Sync Compatable HDR 600 or HDR 1000 monitor but apparently they don't exist unless you pay Asus I believe nearly £2k unless I have missed a monitor or two.

You shouldn't buy into something because of peer pressure, at the very least get to experience a demo somewhere or at a friend and only then decide if you want that or not.

I don't think HDR is really worth the added costs, not yet anyway, it should get cheaper before i would invest in it, just like IPS technology back in the day.

I have a 4k "HDR10" tv and whilst some HDR content looks good, other HDR content looks garbage, but then I see it on a friends LG tv and it looks amazing.

The main issue is I don't want to spend a lot on a monitor if I get a new one because I am looking at possibly going for a new car at the end of November or January and I am still trying to decide between a BMW 330D, M3, 530D, M5, 335D or 535D or Mustang.

So if I decide on a new monitor and it's "Expensive" then I will have less to put down as a deposit for the car, since I won't be trading my current car in since I will only get about £800 to £1k as trade in but will get between £3k to £4k as a private sale.

My principal reasons for buying the M27Q were -

  • It's price (at the time of purchase), I paid £259.98 for it.
  • It's 170Hz refresh rate.
  • It's response time (in reviews it's around the 4.5ms mark as opposed to the advertised 1ms).
  • The panel itself punches well above it's price tag (if I recall correctly it's a Sharp).
  • The built in KVM switch.

To be honest, it's HDR credentials didn't even enter the equation on my part as they are strictly entry level.

Corsair 5000D Airflow in white, Replacing my 680X, Nice looking case but non existent airflow at the front and a little too small internally, Also whoever designed the front dust filter on the 680X did a terrible job considering you need to half disassemble your build to get at the filter to clean it.

Having switched to a 5000D recently I can confirm it's a VERY nice case with plenty of airflow which leads to great temps.

Good to know thanks, Going up from 18'c to 27'c in my area in the next few days so more airflow is definitely needed ^_^

Can't wait for winter :D

I am now officially HDD'less, Replaced my 2nd game drive, No more "click click clank click buzz" ^_^

WD Blue SN550 2TB, Not bad speed wise either, Read writes of around 2GB/s.

Just a quick follow up...

Now I've calibrated it (not much tweaking was really required on my part), I can't recommend the M27Q highly enough boys and girls, it's a great bit of kit and should definitely be a consideration for anyone in the market for a new monitor :D

Here's the manufacturers LINK for reference.

What does that mean? That you purchased that case or got rid of it?…

Think its slang for spending. "dropping £500 on a new GPU" etc

"To drop on" is an expression which can be used in many contexts, as @Warchild correctly deduced I used it in the context to purchase said item.

The temperatures in the UK have been hitting 30°C plus this year so much the same as @Dicehunter I've elected to change to a high airflow chassis to address this.

Me being me, sitting here thinking, I was like when did i get my PSU sure it's been fine but I think i've been using this xfx seasonic oem 850w since my 2500k maybe a little after unsure, but a long time now.

So at first I wanted another seasonic but this time (fully modular) but omg some of the prices are a little steep for my budget :D

So I was pretty much thinking semi modular and corsair was my best hope, then while looking see a fully modular at £89.99 ok it's a refurbished one but it's from scan.co.uk so I know at least it'll be as stated no doubt direct from corsair so i've taken the plunge and picked it up :)

While there are many options out there psu wise around my price when it comes to PSU's I pretty much would only use corsair or seasonic, there are just too many new brands and after the gigabyte meme it just isn't worth risking a system on that and the leg work afterwards.

It'll be my first time being able to trim down on all the cables and maybe at a later date i'll get some coloured replacement kits, I thought about a new case until i realised just how much i like mine as it is atm the PSU after having it for so many years will be a back up it's served me well over time but it's got to be coming on 8 years + now so it felt time to replace like anything it will break and i'd rather that it didnt while in use :D

Oh and this i got also was 15% off so not bad and yes i know I shouldn't have preordered, but have all the battlefields and omg have i been waiting for a modern shooter again just wtf were they thinking for so long :D

That's the same PSU I have probaly way over kill for my system but I like the thought of never pushing it to breaking point

I used to run SLI for many years and while i maybe would be ok with a 750w my 6800XT can chew up 335watts on it's own and while I have plenty of hdds and such 850w is overkill, but like you say better to use 80% load vs going to the maximum range far easier on it's lifespan :)

So long as it doesn't go bang when first turned on it's generally a good sign :D
