Post A Picture of Your Last Purchase

Nice to hear that you find it good, a shame about the microphone quality though. Personally I could never use that headset, as it has that "dual headband" design. Which is where the main one is just one, unjustadable, headband and the inner one is the adjustable one. My head is too big for those kind of headsets.

Too big? lol do you have a head the size of a Football? Should I call you stewie from Family guy from now on?

Jokes aside. I actually placed it on my football which is full size and it stretches over fine. With the main one you dont adjust it. You simply clip the cans into a lower slot which effectively increases the length for you.

If however you are thinking of something like the Rig 500e then that one is less flexible.

On a side note. Been playing and testing the Samsung Galaxy S10... what have you done Samsung :( its bad buggy and poorer performing in benchmarks.

looks like 2019 is the year of the Mate 30 pro or the Oneplus 7.

I've had the Sennheiser PC360s for about 9 years now and they are still the best headset I've come across. Open back is a must in my opinion.

I prefer open back. However, the T5P is the only closed back set of headphones I have ever had where I can honestly say you don't need it. Usually the sound stage sounds very close and short, and until I got the T5Ps my Grado walked everything else for that sense of theatre. But the T5P are every bit as good and are closed.

That said? they cost three times more than the Grado at RRP, so they damn well should do.

I do still love listening to my Grados though. Even if they have a very weak dance music bass they still sound quite amazing. Have them here at my mother's house now.

Umm, maybe... I have a bigger head than most, I guess. Since most headsets aren’t big enough to fit my head.

The reason behind my previous post is cause the headset mentioned has the same design as the Steelseries Siberia V2 had, which the earcups couldn’t even get fully over my ears due to it being too small. And it has the same design:

For someone who has basically always used closed ones, what is it with open ones that makes you all prefer open headsets over closed ones?...

I mean, I know that you don’t get as sweaty with open ones as you do with closed ones (most of the time anyway).

Soundstage dude. For example right I will listen to classical music and Jazz by Ella Fitzgerald. These are music types recorded in a studio and sometimes live, and basically when each instrument is being played (like sax, violin etc) it is coming from another direction. Now the "broader" those instruments sound is what makes up your sound stage. On open back (because they can breathe and bring in sounds from behind you) that soundstage can be absolutely incredible. Because closed backs are, well, closed it sounds a lot closer to you and can get a bit "muddy" where basically it sounds like everything is coming from right behind you.

I've listened to tracks on my Grados and literally had chills down my spine as it sounds like the singer is singing to me, and the band are in the background (like way behind me).

Usually on closed backs that is the price you will pay. Your soundstage will be a lot closer and narrower. It takes a grand's worth to get even close to my Grado (which are about £500).

The downside? open back pee sound, so will annoy virtually every one you meet, and you can hear noises through them (like police sirens etc). Get yourself in a nice quiet room though? they are usually unbeatable.

A lot of it will depend on what you listen to, because you won't get much of a sound stage with techno and electronic music because they are not recorded the same way. Like, there are no band members playing instruments around a studio offering that variety and "distance" it is all just digital.

Proper actual LOL. Made me think of Drop Dead Fred. RIP Rik.

I also prefer them when using a mic as you can hear your voice naturally.

The PC37x being open back is mainly why I mentioned it as a good choice for a headset.

Open back is better sounding. More natural and free flowing. Although for competitive gaming closed headsets for focusing are probably better. When I play single player I always use open back.

Loved my DT990s and now my far superior and favorite headphone Beyerdynamic Amiron is what I use.

I'd argue that open headphones are better for competitive gaming as well since it's easier to pinpoint enemy locations.

But closed headphones are used in LAN events for obvious reasons.

According to the Internet* open-backs are better for pinpointing sound locations in games.

Yeah I can imagine how a soundstage would help with games. Especially if they are Dolby and or have some sort of positional audio.

Yeah in my experience having closed however where everything is focused and no outside noise I find it easier to pinpoint sound locations. I can detect them same time with either but it's just faster for me with closed.

That's why I bought a 7.1 true surround headset. I can have it very much closed, but I know exactly where everything is and where the sounds are coming from.

Which are these? Since I've both heard, read and seen several articles, videos on Youtube regarding "true 7.1 surround sound headsets". None of which really do what they claim...

Now I'm not saying that Linus and his team are correct, but they recently made a video regarding 7.1 "true" surround sound headsets and none of which actually surpassed their test.

This is never ending debate.

To summarise:
You can get emulated 7.1, in software or physical, with x number of dedicated drivers per ear.
However, most people claim that emulated 7.1 with 2 drivers is better because headphone ear cups are too small to fit that many high enough/big enough drivers.

Example of true 7.1 headset: https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Nintendo...US-Surround-Gaming-Headset-Station/B00SFUMI1G

Personally I avoid these true 7.1 headsets.

Yeah, this is pretty much what I meant. Only that you put it into words better than I could at the moment, hence why I never wrote anything about it in my previous post.

I used to have a 5.1 set years ago. Turtle Beach HPA2? something like that. I got them really cheap (£50 when they cost five times that much) because they were an option with Dell XPS (the really high end ones) and some company got a load.

I have the ROG Centurion now, but only because they too were cheap at £130. Well, I thought it was cheap any way. They are good, but volume is quite frankly pathetic. Positional audio is very good on them, though. Especially in FO4.

Must say, Dolby Atmos right now, is just absolutely beautiful. I need to invest in some high end headphones now to appreciate it more.

Didn't mean to start a debate.. I meant "true" as in the driver sense. They have that many drivers. Some claim to be, but are not and use some sort of pseudo surround.

That said with a decent pair of cans and Dolby Atmos you can be hard pushed to tell the difference. However, with my Centurion I have spent hours tweaking it so the rear is slightly quieter than the front and so on. That way you train yourself to learn exactly where the sounds are coming from. It may sound like that would hurt it, but it makes it very easy to pinpoint which driver the sound is coming from. Like, adds distance to make it feel more roomy.

I dislike true 7.1, tried it twice, and twice it failed. It felt empty and weak in all frequencies as it tried to hard to provide precisional audio and missed out on quality.

I can confirm though, Atmos and even a basic headset is better than many headsets/headphones out now.
I do like Dolby Atmos, I got it free with my plantronics, but its still worth the £14.99 to buy separate. And with the Xbox dolby access app on the Xbox X and my surround. Holy jockpants Jism... it its amazing. Hearing a humming bird so perfect I could almost reach up into the air in front of me and point to where the sound is instead of a guesstimate.

Quality on the Centurion is absolutely tip top. I really can't grumble on the sound quality. It's the quantity it lacks, even with its own dedicated amp (which they may as well not have bothered with). Once you tweak it you know exactly where the sounds are coming from. It really is excellent in Fallout 4, though I confess until about 3 days ago that is the only game I had played on them.

Then it's like bus services dude. You wait for one, two come at once FFS. I was so carried away with Metro I forgot FC New Dawn came out. So I spent all day playing that yesterday with my buddy (FC) and it too is ace. Figures though eh? been a year since I've played anything but Fallout 4 and then two games I want release on the same day.

I think had New Dawn been on here I would have remembered, but there I was nagging away at my mate telling him he had better of spent the cash I sent him for the game (for xmas) on it and etc and he said "I've already got it installed dude".

Doh lol.
