Taking the metaphor literally, if you can hear thunder, lightning has already been released 
However in marketing land I'd say yes, release date 7.8.13 (which is 7th August, as 8th July has passed already)

Yeah, they had a closed off box at Computex labelled "GTX 780 lightning" and they're keeping their cards close to their chest with this one.

Ok here is a question if you could buy a 780 lightning or 2x 7970 lightnings for triple screen use what would you buy? I am in a quandary as i may have an opportunity the get either or, but the issue is it is really easy to change between 5760x1080 to 3x1920x1080 with my current 7970 so how easy is it to do with Nvidia? I have heard that is is a nightmare but not using Nvidia myself i cannoy comment so what does the forum think is the way to go?

On the 30th of July AMD will be releasing HUGE Xfire drivers that fixes thee runt issue multi monitor bugs. So in that case i say go for the 7970

The question is how easy is it to change between 1 large screen for gaming to individual screens when not gaming so that for example i can watch a movie on just 1 screen at 1920x1080

^^ just a matter of disabling Xfire in CCC i would believe.
i am guessing here a little, but i think ya just create eyefinity profiles, one with 1920x1080 and one with 5760x1080. and just switch profile within ccc

yeah say a macro on your keyboard if it supports it or just a simple ctrl+shift+*key* would do.

I can do all this with my 7970 ATM what i want to know is how to do it with Nvidia 780 if I get one?

You never stated that lol you just asked how you could change from going 5760 to 1920 so thats what we answered.
Anyway the same applies for Nvidia i would bet. Go to the Nvidia control panel and you have all your settings there.
