Position of soundcard

x 1 has one pcie lane whereas x16 has 16. It's to do with bandwidth. Only stuff that really needs more than 1x is gpu's pcie ssd's and raid cards.

It makes no difference 1-4-8-16 a one can fit in them all.

Then what is the point to create a card as x1, when u can fit it in x4 or x16 slots?

Point is--> If I remove a pci_xpress_x1 soundcard from x1 slot to a x4 slot, what do I lose/earn?
(in efficiency, power or whatever else)
What exactly means 'bandwidth' in action?

it only needs the bandwidth 1x provides and its more compatible. You dont lose or gain anything by it going in a 4x slot or even 16x slot.

Bandwidth is how much data it can move. Graphics cards need a lot as they process a lot of data. In practise a gpu wont see a large performance loss till it goes down to under 8x :)

no i meant it as in if you have a 1x soundcard and all you have left is a 16x at the bottom of the board as your running dual gpu's or something and don't want to obstruct airflow then you can put it in the 16x and not worry about it.

As I said I have available a pci_xpress_x4. My vga is single with a big passive heatsink and no extra power cable. There is no airflow with fans in all sides, I only have an exhaust fan in the back.
My goal is to reduce as possible the temp of video card.
So, do u recommend me put soundcard in x1 slot above/under vga or in x4 slot?

Their trying to tell you put it where ever you want to put it , the sound card is a pcie x1 , it will work in any pcie slot. You won't loose or gain any bandwidth either way.

just put it in any pci express lot that fits that isn't interfering with the card. it doesn't matter if its 1 4 8 or 16 it will be FINE you won't lose anything

Thats a great, useful info for me. Can I remove the graphics card from pci x16 slot to x4 slot?

What? Then not all pci xpress slots are the same.

a Soundard will only ever use 1x of ''bandwidth'' (Trying to simplify this for you...)
a GPU can use 16x, so only giving it 4x to use will limit it.
Giving a soundcard 16x of bandwidth will not make any difference, since the soundcard will still only use 1x of it.

Maybe that helped a little..? :/

Lately my screen often goes black for a couple of seconds...
Do u think this is because I have the soundcard(x1) in the x16/x4 port?
