Position of soundcard

I have a pci_xpess_x1 soundcard.
My mobo has 3 pci_xpress_x1 ports. One above the graphics card and two underside of the graphics card.
Is it better to install soundacard above or under ?

If I get a case with psu placed in the bottom, this means I ll have to put soundcard compulsorily under vga ?

What about the airflow of vga(fanless)?
I was worring about vga's airflow, never thought that soundcard needs airflow too:)
In fact there is no any aiflow, I only use a case exhaust fan in the back.

If I buy a case with psu placed on bottom, this means I ll have to put soundcard compulsorily under videocard ?

Why only the one fan? not sure how it would affect the soundcard/vga with the positioning of it so i'd wait for someone who's maybe had some experience with it though i would add another fan to intake and help airflow :)

Because it is enough. We discussed that in another thread.
So your point is to have a case with psu on top, in order to be able install the soundcard above vga...

Can't remember that but ok then. No my point is that you might need some more airflow around the cards if your going to have 2 close to each other but its up to you.

to be honest mate, it doens't really make any difference, put it in a slot, test temps, put it in another one test temps. pick the winner ?

Personally I put them where they fit or if possible whereever is neatest

I have mine in a graphics card slot on the bottom of my rig works fine just find the best spot with most room and put it in.

I didnt mean that I discussed that with u:)Thread here
I thought your point was to have soundcard above vga, and that is possible only if psu is placed on top(I think).
I can follow vga's temp, but soundcard's? Never heard of program which show soundcard's temp. How much (oC) should be?

I guess your soundcard is not pci_xpress_x1.
My query is--> when vga receives less heat? with soundcard above or under vga?

put it in, and test it ;)

And it could easily be a PCI-Ex 1 card ... at the bottom of the board, there are plenty of boards with slots at the bottom :)

1) a sound card won't overheat.

2) If you looking for lower temps, I'd put it above the GPU, so the fan on it has more ''breathing room''

3) The position of your PSU should have no effect on where your cards go, unless your in a tiny ITX case... are you..?

Hope I helped out :)

gpu is fanless.

I have seen some pictures of cases with psu bottomed. Looks like mobo goes higher, and this means that the pci x1 back slot is unavailable. I mean, u cant install something above vga. Probably these are midi cases, so u think I should get a full one?

If the GPU is fanless, the soundcard position won't make a difference :)

Also, in a case where the PSU is bottom mounted, the motherboard I/O slot and all the expansion bays move up too, to accommodate it ~ You don't loose any slots :)

By that i meant the back of the gpu might get warm under load and the sound card might block the heat escaping :)

My soundcard is pcie 1.

The other available pci xpress slot in my mobo is x4.
Whats the difference between pci x1 and pc1 x4?
Suppose x1 is better?
