Please Help: Crysis and ATI Catalyst 7.10

Does anyone know if there are issues with these 2? I can't play Crysis for more than 10 minutes, because the screen freezes for 30secs, the sound continues and then my pc reboots.

Also could it be my temps at load?:

66C on 1 core of my X2 3800

81C on my X1900XT

57C on my northbridge.

Please help me, I really want to play Crysis and ive read that the 7.11's are poor dont even have a Crysis hotfix.

Is your CPU / GPU overclocked?

Are your fans running ok? Are they set to SMART or fully on all the time? What are your idle temps?

Must admit, my system is pretty pushed and I don't get temps like that.

What's airflow like in your case? Have you tried the 7.11 drivers? You could always use driver cleaner and revert to the 7.10's

I played Sega Rally for about 4 hours last night solid and my CPU hit mid 50's (2160 clocked to 3.2Ghz with stock cooling) and my x1950pro never skipped a beat - and it's passively cooled.

What settings do you play Crysis on? I play at 1280x1024 on medium settings, full anisotropic and AA off. Looks fine and plays great. Not such help to you, but hope I've given you something to think about

My first guess would be your CPU temp is kinda high. Try stress testing with something like -this- and see if you hit the same temps, and if it causes a reboot. To stress the GPU, I find RTHDRIBL -here- at fullscreen to be sufficient to stress the GPU.

The northbridge temp is fine I should think.

Run both of these for about an hour and watch your temps; if your comp handles them alright, then look for a software problem.

Thanks guys for the input, my x2 3800 is overclocked to 2.8ghz @ 1.45v, and my x1900xt overclocked to 688/1584 (i havnt updated my sig yet). I ran orthos last night for an hour and one cpu core got to 73C! But it was still running orthos.

I have my AC freezer pro on 100%, 1 120mm front intake (1500rpm), 1 120mm side intake on (750rpm), and 1 120mm rear outake (1500rpm). My idle temps are around 38-40 cpu, 41 northbridge and 42 GPU.

Ive just gone to the post depo to get my Collabortory Liquid Pro, so im going to pop that on and see if re-seating the cooler helps.

If it keeps rebooting, ill try the 7.11 drivers.

Don't forget, if you reseat the heatsink, you will need fresh compound. Also worth noting that it will take a few solid hours for the paste to reach maximum thermal vconduction - iirc arctic silver site tells you what that might be - can't remember off the top of my head, but think it's 150 hours +. You might drop a few degrees idle/load then.

I think, and this is a totally personal opinion, the Arctic Freezer should be doing a better job than it is, which is why I think reseating it, very carefully, might do the trick.

Keep us posted!

Ye i cleaned off the AS5 and replaced it with Collabortory Liquid Pro. My idle temps are 34-36C with 1.425V (I dropped it bak down). I ran orthos for 5 mins and it got up to 60C, will run it for long later after ive done some work.

I have read that poeple are having probs with the 7.10 drivers, but they get graphics curuption, not a system reboot. Ill change to the 7.11's later and see if that lets me play Crysis.

Thanks for your help! Ill let u know how it goes.

Crysis works fine with the 7.11's for me. Only diff is I ditched the Catalyst Control Panel and used ATi Tool.

One thing to try - does the fan on the cooler suck or blow? Sometimes swapping fan direction has good results on temps. Worth a shot.

IIRC don't AMD chips run slightly hotter than Intel? I know that used to be the case.

Is the fan settings in the BIOS set to SMART or is that off?

The AC Freezer Pro? That blows air accross the fins, and I dont think i can change it. I have it at 100% all the time.

Other way round dude.

Just try the new drivers tim. And you case fans are cranked up fully right?

No there not, if I crank them up I cant hear myself think. They go up to 2850rpm and its silly loud. I will install the new drivers later.

It seems stable, doesnt crash in any other game apart from Bioshock the 1st time I pld it. I orthosed it for 2.5hrs b4 and it was stable although it did fail after an hour yesterday.

orthos 'stable' is 8 hours, and i do 1 hour of OCCT to make sure

i would just try it with lower clock or maybe even stock too rule that out.

yeah my first thoughts were man your not close to stable. gotta run 8 hours. drivers work fine for me . but i do have to have my gpu fan on 100% or my card will bounce to desktop. thems some weak vcore for that clock. most x3800 Ive seen need at least 1.58 at that speed. got OccT? turn it on max test and run it bet it crashes in less then 5 Min's

ye i cudnt be bothered to wait lol. i might orthos over night 2nite. Ive been running it for 30mins and my load temps have dropped to 61C on the cpu. ill install the 7.11's after ive got away from watching x factor :(

And over clock isent any good to anyone if its not stable. Whos bothered now :D

lol true, ok 14 hrs and orthos is still going. Top temp ive seen is 65C. So i think its stable then. So therefore it is prob a driver issue. ill just play Crysis wen i get out of bed to make sure.

Is that core temp reading ? seams to me ya otta get a grip on them temps :D OK dont seam to see what cpu cooler your useing ?

Ye thats the highest either of my cores got. I hope they will drop a few degrees when the thermal liquid has cured. Im using an Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro with the fan @ 100% all the time.

ahhh that explains it. not my choice of coolers. they work ok on single core. But how often do one see 100% load? me never. only when benching
