I will be running Ubuntu studio and using software such as blender and inkscape and for video open shot.
Now what type of setup should I be looking for?

One thing I do want is a motherboard with lots of sata ports i will be using a ssd for the linux distro and as many hard drives as possible prob just green drives since its storage

I am not interested in overclocking.

it can be amd or intel

gpu I dont think ill need one but prob pck up a gtx 630 to help run some of the fancy effects

also waht case would you recomend i want summit suttle but with lots of hdd space and built like a tank..

Also what size are you looking at, do you want to be smallish or HUGE. Do you just to go with a atx build or maybe scale down to a maxt build

No real budget but lets say £600/800 max, size atx or bigger just for hard drive space really.

just cpu, mobo and case Im stuck on
no overclocking so a none k cpu on intel side is fine

psu and coolers I dont need help with that part is easy

What ones were you going to get? Its still very easy to mess it up. Also is it just the cpu, motherboard and a case for £600 or the whole thing?
for CPU I'd look at a Xeon E3-1230 V2/v3, motherboard wise I'd get an Asus of some description and for case I'd say have a look at a Nanoxia Deep Silence 2.

So what about the ram and os?
Also, what about the £600 budget. is that just for the case, mobo and cpu?

I will be using a ubuntu based os and installing both gimp and blender as well as other editng software.
£600 is just for cpu,mobo,ram,case

Psu and cooler are no in the budget
neither is any hard drives or ssds

aight. Here is my attempt:
CPU: Intel Xeon E5-2620 V2 2.1GHz 6-Core Processor (£296.76 @ Scan.co.uk) (you will need a cpu cooler for this as it doesn't come with one)
Motherboard: MSI X79A-GD45 Plus ATX LGA2011 Motherboard (£133.85 @ Aria PC)
Memory: Patriot Viper 3 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (£101.99 @ Aria PC) (you might need more ram)
Case: Fractal Design Define R4 (Titanium Grey) ATX Mid Tower Case (£76.90 @ Amazon UK)
