Reading the bottom of the article, it mentions that last year they struck a deal with Sharp for their LCDs... I'm guessing that means they don't actually make and flat panel screens for themselves now?
Outsourcing makes a lot of sense though. They won't have done this unless they know they can get the job done cheaper this way.
They'll doubtless have a contract with thier supply to produce the units to a proper specification, the company they're paying to make the stuff for them won't make units crap, the people who are making them are a buisness and need customers too. Like power supplies and memory, brands don't make thier own units (corsair and seasonic) and chips on sticks (micron).
Supposedly they produced the first ever 4 CD changer. Good luck to 'em.
WOW Pioneer made the best Plasma on the market, huh what a shame but then again plasma is going down hill now that LCD tech is improving and not to mention that LaserTV and OLED will be hitting the seen so I guess Pioneer might have had its reasons but still its certainly something...
