PII X4 965BE good enough?

A friend of mine asked me to build him a gaming rig but he is on a budget.
So i thought of using a X4 965BE and a GTX570. Yes I know AMD is not as great as Intel but the only purpose of the rig will be gaming and I will be overclocking the system so I thought it would do just fine. But I've seen a video with exactly that setup and it only got +-40fps on dirt3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSmQj7I3ZdI
Now my question is, is the x4 bottle necking the gtx570 or will it do just fine?
Or should i go with an i3 2100 which is more expensive and only a dual core dont know if it has HT?

BTW PII X4 965BE €94,90
i3 2100 €114,90

It will do fine - but the i3 will be better. They dont exactly overclock very well - maybe to around 4ghz if you're lucky, but the i3 will perform better in gaming. You wont be able to overclock though.

Ivybridge i3s should be out next month - so could be worth waiting. If they're too expensive, at least the Sandys should come down a little in price.

Not at all.
I have a friend with an i3 and a 7950. Another user on here is looking to buy an i3 with 5870 crossfire I believe.
An i3 will handle any card fine with no bottleneck
