Performance Showdown: Windows 7 vs 8.1

I ran window 8 when it first came out and hated it and went back to 7, but since 8.1 they have sorted most of the issues out, you can boot to desktop instead of metro, they have a windows icon where start use to be and that takes you to metro.
I removed most of the default stuff from the metro screen and created my own you can rename the place holders for programme icons also use your desktop background as the metro background.
my thoughts on windows 8.1 is I wouldn't go back to 7 now I find it so easy to use :)

I'm considering a HTPC build with an APU, if that materializes I'll consider rerunning the tests. But at present, with Intel it makes no difference.

Aye, unless intel start making crappy individual cores there will be no performance difference between the two. The 8350 is probably the most powerful AMD cpu that gets a performance increase from 7 to 8. The 9xxx series don't seem to get that much of a boost.
