pentium 4 maximum temperature

a basic rule of thumb is to keep any processor under 55C load, becuase they may be able to take the extra heat..but it will shorten your cpu's lifespan in the long run.

No! 72ºC is the Thermal Threshold for Pentium 4 Northwoods.

They'll start throttling at about 65oc tho, so you don't want them to get anywhere near that.

what about prescott and extrem edition?what's the maximum temperature of them.same as northwood or different??

Pressies are hot lil suckas... Your temps are going to vary and depend on your cooling solution. Pretty hard to make an estimate w/o knowing ur entire system specs.

true true, love ur aviator fragtec....haha n i go to a catholic school :worship:

sory i'm just trying to get clear info.....i'm actually try to help my friend about his pros temp.he just use simple intel mb.i'm not quite sure the model and he used pentium 4 3.0 Ghz HT.the temp rise up to 74 after playing game.i just wanna know is it bad, worse or critical condition that he must do something about that

Dont let a northwood go over 55. Anything over that will cut the lifespan. As far as prescotts the max is 65 but thermal throttling kicks in at about 62ish so try and keep it around 60. System specs?

well tell him to download cpuz, that will tell him what brand it is, then post wat it is, and he maybe need a new heatsynk :), or clean it out if its dusty

ok i try to reach my friend and get the full spec......thankz a lot guys for all the help and info...

thank to orange, ace, nicks and to the our moderator dave and fragtec.hey can i make u guys my buddy list? just asking....i'm out from here and coming back with the full spec of the computer.

sure..im only on msn tho

also you would be surprised but good airflow is like 10x mroe improtant than a good HS. check the airflow and also get some arctic silver 5 thermal compound to lower temps 5C or so.
