PC stuck on loading

My computer has recently stopped working. Everytime I start the pc, it goes past the bios, then it gets stuck where the space character is blinking white on a black background. I can use ctrl alt del to restart the pc but then the same thing happens again.

Occasionally, after restarting many times, I manage to go into windows. However, after about 30-60 seconds everything is frozen. I can move the mouse and see the mouse icon is "loading/busy", but thats about it. I have to hard reset it and end up not being able to get past the blinking state.

This happened after I moved out to a new apartment about 1.5 - 2 months ago. A month ago, the same thing happened and I was somehow able to reformat/reset/restore windows back to a previous state. A month later, and Im now facing the same thing. However this time I cant seem to reset it.

Im suspecting it might be due to some vibration/shock when I moved, but no clue.

Anyone with any ideas what it might be?

mobo: Asus z97 pro gaming
cpu: intel g3258
ssd: Kingston Hyper X 2x120gb

Im using windows 10.

Nothing in terms of hardware testing. Ive tried all the possible solutions windows has suggested, but most of them or rather all have some sort of error while diagnosing it. I cant remember well what Ive done exactly since Ive been using my laptop for 2 weeks now. And it is hard to get into windows diagnostics service. I kind of randomly get into it after restarting several times. I can try to do it again tomorrow and see if I have any luck.

Sounds like an issue with no drive being detected. Have you checked all the connections between the motherboard and any storage devices?

Time to pop the case open and unplug then replug every connector. Something probably got jiggled during the move.

I have now opened the case and took out the following:

gpu, 1 ram (total 2), 2 ssd (total 3).

I basically have 1 ram, 1 ssd and cpu running now. I replugged all the cables, and changed to different sata port and cables, however, the probelm still continues.

I managed to get into the recovery mode after starting up the pc then -> advanced repair options -> troubleshoot -> reset this PC.

In about 15 seconds the resetting progress got to 10%, then for about 1.5h it was stuck there, so I ended up turning off the PC as usual.

Im suspecting a) disk (highly) b) mobo (not so much).

What do you guys think?

Im thinking perhaps I should install ubuntu and see how that works, maybe I can find something, but Im not so familiar with linux. Also, it might take another month before I see any symptoms as in windows. Yet again, I dont think its a software problem since Im able to load into recovery mode before entering windows, or am I wrong here?

Its nothing to do with the OS - you have a hardware issue.

Sounds like a faulty hard disk to me ? Maybe download some command based testing software?

I'd be suspecting that the RAM, or the dimm its plugged into. It might also be a HDD, but if that is the case, swapping the hard disk over will remove that as a possibility.

Likewise, switching out the RAM, and/or moving it to another slot will remove them as being suspect.

PSU would be my next guess. Do you have a spare (or a friends) of similar wattage (or better yet: higher) that you can use to run some tests with?

My wife's rig did exactly the same thing when her hdd went duff. Sat there blinking or would bomb on the repair.

I would take it out and test it in another PC if you can. That's about the least destructive thing I can think of.

my money is on the PSU

I dont have another PSU to test with. I put my ram in another slot, and still same problem. I took out the ssds and put them on a usb adapter. 2 out of 3 ssds were acting weird sometimes. They kind of froze or lagged, so i had to restart the usb adapter. one of these to ssds was used as my OS driver. I also noticed that some files where missing.

Eventually, i decided to format everything. This is the second time i lose all the data on my disks First time was a crash in my raid 10 setup. Never raid again.

I sold the ssds. Now im waiting for black friday to buy new and bigger ssd.

I hope its not the psu, i bought a used RM750i psu. It was used for only 1 year when i bought it, and now ive used it for about 6 months. Cant really believe its faulty.
