PC in a wall socket

Well, it wouldn't be right to call this a whole PC, but it's pretty cool all the same. The Chip PC Jack-PC is a thin client that fits into a standard Ethernet wall box. This will mean little to most home users, but for large enterprise net admins and office managers, it could be pretty awesome. With all of the thin client stuffed into the wall box, the only components that will need to be user accessible are the keyboard, mouse, and display, which could easily be mounted directly to a wall. That way, office managers could cram even more workers into ever-shrinking spaces while IT managers could radically reduce the number of potential trouble tickets occuring at users' workstations by running all apps directly from the server room.

For workers, this would closely resemble hell, meaning ever more cramped working conditions and radically reduced personal internet use at the office. (Of course, the Jack-PC doesn't directly contribute to shrinking work spaces. But it does seem like a logical outcome. What office manager wouldn't jump at the chance to cut cubicle space in half?)

The Jack-PC 6900 has a 500MHz AMD Au 1550 processor and 128MB of RAM, and is powered over Ethernet. With its embedded Windows CE 5.2 OS, the only locally run app is Internet Explorer 6.

unsure on the price, but these look pretty good.

You can get them in 2 cpu speeds, 333MHz (800MHz x86 equiv), 500MHz (1.2HGz x86 equiv). There are also other models with various features, click here too see a list.

UPDATE: Found some prices for these clients. they are as follows;

EFI-6700 Jack-PC device £199.99

EFI-6800 Jack-PC device £269.99

EFI-6900 Jack-PC device £335.99

Not that bad price wise.

Wow thats pretty darn good. I wish my place would use thin client - make my life so much easier :/

Wow... That would have been so great working at lowes. We had to make so much room for random terminals throughout the store, this would have been a savior!

No doubt some of our thin clients will be replaced by something like this soon :)

We have over 5000 WYSE and NCD Terminals so I'm sure the bosses would appreciate it ;)
