PC games optimization

How to fix PC games optimization problems (according to Sylvain Trottier, AC4):

  • Step 1. buy a bigger GPU
  • Step 2. you're done
Because "usually you don't really care about the performance, because the idea is that if it's not [running] fast enough, you buy a bigger GPU.", right? Sometimes I wonder if they even bother to think...

if your referring to your sig rig then a new cpu wouldnt hurt either which of course would need a new mobo as well

will just post this here.

a small conversation with another guy who developed AC4.

i own assassins creed 4 and will post again when i start playing it later with performance details for my system.

Here is an article that clearly shows the benifits of a stronger (quad core) cpu for AC4

Shoddy journalism or covering their tracks? lol jk great journalism. It makes you wonder why games journalism is in the toilet >:c

Either way I don't like how it sounds, "buy a better graphics card if it runs crap" is not fair as not everyone can afford an upgrade.

Lol. I love cobsoles and have a ps4 preordered and I follow both adam sessler and jeremy conrad. For about 2 weeks straight everything sess said was picked apart by conrad as a ms bought bias. Sayinf that on the xb1 720 doesnt matter etc it was funny as. Also on the topic of optimisation. The geforce experience tells me to play bf4 on low. Look at my sig for my specs. I run it on ultra everything like butter.

Not referring to my system, just at his logic about optimization (works crappy? then buy bigger gpu) or it could be taken out of context ...

oh cmon
1. it's a console game, what did you expect
2. "he should know, not everybody has a 1000$ system to run it" if you don't have a racing car don't expect to have a shot at winning the race, if devs would always care for the low end people we'd still be playing 2d games.

i got quite the easy way to deal with issues like these. DON'T BUY THE DAMN GAME. because no matter how badly the devs treat you, no matter how much complaining there is, at the end of the day most of those complaining people still buy the game.

having now played the first part of the game all i can say is that any option of AA is terrible apart from smaa and fxaa.

also the game seems to be capped at 60fps as thats where the games constantly stays at. ill need to find a way to stop that.

part of me thinks that nvidia's txaa is being pushed hard here, given its an nvidia game.

If you do please share :)

i will if i find a fix, should be a file i can mod. hopefully it won't result in a TotalBiscuit

now that i have played a while longer i see that in the cities i run at 40-50 fps, this is with the fxaa, either this game has terrible crossfire support or it's more than the AA that needs a little work.

when at sea i usually am constantly at the 60 frame buffer.

Can't wait until some optimised drivers are released by amd, they might help a little.

tbh AC is probably the kind of game i'd enable vsync in because input delay doesn't matter at all since the game kinda plays itself, so might as well put vsync on and get rid of the screen tearing. that implies of course that you have a 60hz monitor

Tbh I don't care about the frame rate cap, I dislike the almost complete inability to use AA and have good performance.

All assassins creed games benefit greatly from a good helping off AA, all those flat climbable surfaces etc, jaggies are very noticeable unlike most other games.
