PC for my uncle

Ok, he wants me to build/buy a pc for him with the value of around £500. He wants rid of his crt so I'm sure he'll want a TFT. Basically its gonna last around 4 years - then as I quote "I want to build me a beast then" :p

Its gonna be mostly for my two cousins to surf the internet and play games (not oblivion like but needs to be able to play most games adequately) and do homework. They are sick of the 1.6ghz pentium 4 they have atm, the hdd is costantly seeking really loud (it does my head in for the small amount of time im there for!)

Also 128mb ram doesnt exactly wooosh along at high speeds :( along with the Geforce 2 mx

As he owns a company I think (THINK) he'll be claiming vat. Its also for after christmas - with c2d cuts coming, theres no better time. I already have £150 worth of Geil 2gb ram I need to get rid of (ill include it in the price) so i've got £350 for a decent pc with screen not including ram

To be perfectly honest mate, if you want to build your uncle a decent machine I wouldn't spend £150 of the £500 on RAM. Also if he's planning to claim VAT back, he won't be able to do that if he's bought the ram from you.

For budget builds I normally use Ebuyer, they have a huge range of budget boards and some real cheap DDR/DDR2 memory that works really well at stock speeds.

I'd probably build a system something like this:

Low end Conroe

Asrock motherboard

1gb ebuyer value ram

17" TFT with a decent warranty

Ebuyer cheapo case

Antec/Enermax/Hiper 350w PSU

Low-end PCI-E graphics like nvidia 6600

120gb 7200rpm hard disk with warranty

With a bit of tweaking you should be able to get that in the £500 budget.
