PC does not boot anymore after RAM change

Hello,

my PC had two memory sticks with 2 GB RAM each. I had two free slots and installed two more sticks with 4 GB RAM each.

When I started the PC, it started the fans and the Power-LED, but stopped all of a sudden. Then the PC started again and stopped again. He did it several times and did not really start to boot. The monitor screen remained dark all the time, there was no image on the display.

I thought, that there is something wrong with the new Memory and removed it.

When I started the PC again, it showed the same behaviour as before. No image on the monitor screen, no boot process, only the fans started for a second or two and the Power LED went on and off.

I can not recover the PC, the DVD-Drive does not open and the PC does not start the BIOS or boot process. Any idea, how I can handle this and resolve the problem?

My PC specs:

Motherboard: H67MA-USB3-B3

Old Memory: 2 x 2 GB Kingston (?) DDR3 RAM with 1333 MHz

New Memory: 2 x 4 GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 RAM with 1333 MHz

CPU: Intel Core i5 2500 @ 4 x 3.3 GHz

GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6870

Any help is appreciated, thank you very much in anticipation.

in dual channel mode you cant just mix and match ram lol u mad bro?

even buying same ram brand and type wont guarantee full compatibility therefore you should always buy in full kits so they have same revisions etc.

i was never stupid enough to try something like that so im not sure if the motherboard has any damage, but if after clearing cmos you still cant go to bios or boot then you most likely damaged the mobo or bios itself

to clear cmos, you can either google for detailed guide or:

take your side panel off, on mobo you will find a CR2021(i cant remmebr the nuymbers lol) battery take it out for 5mins and put it back in or use jump pins whihc you can find position in the mobo manual( 3 pin siwtha jumper on the first two, switch the jumper to the 2nd and third pin for a minute then put it back)

No, the BIOS wont be damaged...

Chances are it's trying to run your memory at the same settings as the last memory was, and the new memory cant accept that. Clearing it resets it all to defaults and auto RAM timings so it should fix it

If you're not sure how to reset the CMOS on your motherboard there are 3 things you can do.

1. Check the Motherboard manual (if you have it) It should be under Jumper or something similar

2. Look on the internet for a guide for your particular motherboard.

3. get someone you know who is reasonably knowledgeable in these things to come over and give you a helping hand.

Hope this helps

Hope this will help. Look for the jumper that I highlighted in yellow on the image. Change its position for a minute then change it back.

You wont damage a thing, in fact mixing and matching RAM if you're not overclocking isn't a bad idea at all really
