Passed the ol driving test today :)

I think that tescos are coming up cheaper for me to be on my mums policy as well.

Will look into the others. I guess as last time I was a leaner, now I aint.

but is it a good idea going on their policy?

you wont gather your no claims then (?)

anyway

im failing at finding a suitable car that wont kill me in insurance - whilst not getting a ciquecento either.. lol

ideas?

Dont think so, as you actually leave them each year - you only buy it one year at a time.

I find that with my bike I am offered a cheaper renual than any other company. I do a lil look round now as they want to keep me, and so offer a slightly better deal/

yeh but if u aint the main driver/going on ur parents policy you dont build up a no claims

my mum is on dads policy - she has 0 no claims bonus

so generally the "compare" type websites are crap compared to going direct?

Use them as a starting point, see if going through or without them is cheaper. I think that you would get the same deal.

The no claims bonus is the biggest god send ever...was £2400 my first year, now I'm looking at £1100 after 2 years no claims :D

I agree with the checking compare websites first, then phoning up/onlining direct (phoning to try and haggle).

Beige m reg volvo FTW according to Top Gear is the ideal car.

for your first car dont get a 1.3+ engine size after 1.4 it shoots through the rooth because thats boy racer territory

1.2 fiesta sized is probably the sweet spot. A 1.6 corolla on the other hand is not an ideal insurance bargain...even if it is an old person car

yeah 1.0i-1.2 cars are great value, but on comparethemarket website thing i got a quote with me only as the driver, the lowest insurance they could get for a 1.0i black corsa was £4200 i mean the cars worth £1200 so i have too total the car 3 times too get my moneys worth?

It depends where you live, how its garaged, how new the car is. Try putting at least one parent on the insurance, especially if they have 5+ years no claims, but put noone with any points on their license if you can avoid it.

i went too churchill and put my mum on the insurance 14 years no claims and the car is going too be garaged and it put it down too £340 on a 1.2i corsa

Dont go french mate. Never, ever, ever. They may entice you with their cheap prices and availabiliy but they will brake over and over, often very badly and parts, suprisingly, cost a bomb. If you want a cheap, reliable first car look at jap cars like honda or mazda, civics in particular are renound for reliability. The engine used in most older civics (name escapes me) is one of only two engines out there that has never been known to have an inherant catastrophic flaw. Even the 'bulletproof' M52B25 block in my beemer has a massive but little known flaw and its one of bmws better engines.

The best thing to do if insurance is high is give cheapercarinsurance a ring. They will assign someone to your application and ring around all the cheapest companies for you, playing them off against one-another, keeping you updated with the cheapest quote so far. They charge a very small comission but are well worth it. A boy me and ham were in college with got a quote on his Mk2 golf 1.6 (18 yo at the time) through them for around £800, he then rang the company that offered the policy and gave the exact same details, they quoted £1400.

I've decided I'm going to start learning myself with my dad and older friends.

I've also decided on a Ford Ka as it's pretty cheap, good plastic bumpers, cheap insurance and I quite like the look myself, best outta the lower class.

Insurance, I found Quinn Direct had the cheapest so far, coming in at around 760 quid for full insurance and windowscreen/law fees coverage. Also excess is 250.

Direct line quoted 1,500 which is cheaper than most but still sucks compared.

Now to find the car...
