P8P67 LE limitations

HI guys, Ive got a p8p67 LE and recently discovered it has nearly no options to control vcore voltage.

Ive got it to 4.5Ghz completely stable with a jumpy 1.3ish voltage but if I up the multiplier I get volts over 1.4 or higher

Im pretty sure my 2500k will be stable going faster with 1.3 volts but I cant test it.

There is a vcore offset which I think is based on the stock voltage (1.2 or something) but Id really like more control.

My question is; do I try to work around with the offset thingy or just upgrade to z68/z77 and get a better model

If we decide to work with what Ive got Ill move to the overclocking forums

Thanks in advance for any (good) advice

so ur overclocking the turbo??? unfortunatly your stuck with what it gives ya for voltage control. seems that board was only made to oc the turbo

I see. Was my first build and I tried to save money. I didnt think Id get this much into overclocking.

Any suggestions for boards I want to be looking at?

Shouldn't have bought an cheap asus board, here's an example

Low end asus board starts at 144$ , Has PCI slots why do you need those? you dont even have anything from the 90's that works in those slots get a board with all PCI-E 2.0/3.0 slots

then they rip off the heatsinks around the cpu, you need those for overclocking...

then they throw in all the software features or half of them and say the boards good to go

why? Because you can listen to anyone on this site say I'm wrong but it makes sense to me that since asus is the #1 manufacturer of mobo's you're buying the brand over the features...

I'm pretty sure there's a MSI / Gigabyte board in the same price range as the low end asus boards that overclock like gods, I mean if you test a low end asus board against a fatal1ty board which should be like 160$ it'll have overclocking performance that you would get with a mid ranged asus board.

so basically what I'm saying here is if you can't afford asus's range don't buy it all, if you want to overclock never buy the company's low end board that'll lead to RMA's or you won't have everything you want

So I suggest you get a UD5H from gigabyte for like 190$ or a MSI GD55 for 170$, they both overclock better than then any asus board in that price range, once again you're buying brand when you buy asus quality comes in when you hit their mid ranged boards

I wish I coulda afford an asus board but I said f*** that because the MSI GD65 had everything their PRO/Delux had except for some useless fan programs and wifi config apps that you won't probably ever use

Don't get caught up in brand names when it comes to your build dude, and do your research, Asus is a bunch of hype a bunch of reviewers ride their dick and forget everything else

well 4.5 is a good oc thats what i run at for 24/7 use. You can change mobo's but your not likely to get alot more but then again you might.

I agree with you Lauralarry, this board is definitely lacking

Although Im happy with the 4.5, unless I have the tools to get the max Im not learning anything so Ill look into a higher end board

Thanks for the replies, Ill get back to you's when Ive narrowed the choice down
