Okay so the other day I tried overclocking for the first time. I got my q6600 to about 2.6Ghz, just playing around and getting the feel for it. At first I was worried because I was using a glitchy asus program called pc probe - it would often tell me that certain voltages were at 0 or pretty damn high, and only for like 3 seconds; I have heard other people have had this problem. Anyway, I flashed my bios, installed latest one. However, it wouldnt boot after this. I moved the jumper on my motherboard and started up, this time it booted. However, the bios revision was the same as the one I put in, which is odd. Anyway, I continued to overclock. I went for 2.7ghz, and at this point, one time it told me that it failed to boot and that I should put stock setting back, and a second time I got an exeption. So I decided perhaps at this point I needed to up voltages slightly, so I felt I would turn it back down for a while. My motherboard has the ability to unlink the fsb and the memory, so I can up the frequency of the cpu without touching the memory (checking cpu-z, it basically seems to set the ratio for me). Anyway, I noticed that upon unlinking the two, the option to set the ratio started to show up, which didnt happen before as it is set to automatic. chaninging it causes it to set back to auto again. I just thought, odd. Anway, now, whenever I change the fsb or anything in the "extreme tweaker" section, upon closing the bios and booting again it sets back to auto. The memory timings etc stay the same, so its not like its just setting it all back to default settings. Anyone have any ideas on the cause/fix?
