P5B & RAM Overclocking Advice

I've finally just managed to get some time to fiddle with my Patriot memory and overclocking this setup :)

However, I'm having extreme difficulty with the memory. In the BIOS if I change the RAM Timings to Manual, then re-BOOT the system will hang on the first AMI BIOS screen. I've tried playing with them, but it seems that ANY setting with the Timings set to Manual fails BOOT.

I'm running V02.58

Any ideas? At the mo I'm thinking I could have some sensitive RAM?

You changing the standard timings or the Alpha's mate?

<edit> dammit, need to read your sig properly, keep thinking your PSU is made by "nesquik" </edit>

Don't mock the PSU, she's a beauty! :D

Basically, it's anything - when I switch off 'AUTO' :(

I haven't even got that far yet - it is literally when I switch off AUTO, that the system hangs on the AMI screen :(

(BIOS File 0706)

Thickbrit is pretty good with patriots and Intel set-ups.

At some point I will drop in some BIOS screenies of my set-up - more likely when I start benching again.

Cheers

The earlier p5b bios's were very picky with ram, there are a couple of newer bios which claim to improve ram compatability.A few mobo's appear to have issues booting with patriot ram too,but your problem seems unique.I cannot find anyone else saying the bios freeze's after altering timings from spd.I would try a bios flash (preferably in dos or ez flash),manually clear cmos, set up bios at stock, then try the timings again. What patriot is it and what are your other oc settings ?

Try these timings.

Using my g.skill HZ at those timings 1:1 515fsb stock volts ;)

Just updated the BIOS to revision 0711 and things seemed to have smoothed out a lot - I'd recommend doing the update to anybody that hasn't already :)

It's not sticking on the first BOOT screen and it now allows me to adjust the RAM settings.

Under the Jumperfree settings, should RAM be left at 'AUTO' or should it be adjusted to one of them preset speeds?

Set it to run 1:1 with your fsb :)

All done now, I don't like running dividers :)

Just a note: This BIOS is still buggy and does odd things. There is a knack to overclocking it as it keeps losing my BOOT disk!
