Overclocking.

What I would like to do is give you guys my computer specs and then ask of you to tell me what you think I could run at comfortably, without hurting the longevity of my computer. And then, maybe after that going over how to do this sort of thing, because I have never overclocked before, but would really like to understand how to.

So here goes:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate.
Processor: Intel Core i7-3820 @ 3.60GHz Sandy Bridge-E (3.8GHz, Turbo Boost) 130W Quad-Core
System type: 64 bit
MB: Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws Z Series 32GB DDR3 SDRAM 2133 Quad Channel Kit
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 680 FTW 4Gig
Water Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H100i Water Cooler
Case: Thermaltake Level 10 GT Full Tower

Side Note: In the Device Manager under processor, it shows "Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3820 CPU @ 3.60 GHz" 8 times, and not 4, I am very confused as I thought it was supposed to show per core... any thoughts?

nothing on what my system can handle yet? I would have thought someone would have posted suggestions or opinions on what it could handle by now :(

Oh sry forgot GPU, edited post, but it is a EVGA GeForce GTX 680 FTW edition with 4 gig of video memory. And yes for gaming and video editing.

alright looks like I'll have to do a bit of research and roll without help, not really sure why people pointed me here for help when there seems to be none of it... g'luck in your endeavors oc3d.

we will help you but first you have to help yourself. There is no magic formula to say what each system will do. Or that xxx's settings will work for yyy's rig even though they match part for part.

You must first read read read everything you can about overclocking and learn what changing this and that does and how it will help or hinder your endeavors.

oh and once your done reading it read it again I'll bet you'll miss something.

I don't think an educated guess though is completely unreasonable, that was all I was really asking.

Oh well thanks for the tip though, I'll figure it out.
