Hi,
I've been trying to overclock my FX-8150 pass 4.2 GHz. I can reach up to 5.0 GHz on full load with the heat less then 75 C. My problem is that after 4.2 GHz even if i go up by 0.1 GHz the system is unstable no matter what i do....Increasing the voltage, lowering nothing i do can make it stable...I know its not a heating problem...So i must be doing something wrong.

OR

Is that my motherboard that makes it unstable

TECH SPECS:
CPU: FX-8150
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 660ti
MB: GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3 AM3+
HDD: 750 GB - 7200 RPM(OS) there's more but, unnecessary to post them
COOLER: ZALMAN LQ-320 - Liquid Cooler
RAM: 16 GB Rip Jaws

I overclock with AMD overdrive, and also using the bios

WHAT i want to know what am i doing wrong, and how can i achieve a successful stable OC at 4.8 GHz.

Thanks for all your help

NOTE: do i have to OC the ram because i never did, is OC the ram necessary for higher OC levels?
higher OC

Look in your bios for load line calibration and make sure it's turned all the way up so your volts stay steady. Also make sure any CPU power save settings are turned off. C6 ect.. What volts are you currently using?

SHOCK i never new about that....As of right not i put it back to stable 4.2 ghz

Volts are just the CPU voltage nothing else its at 1.3V

when i go over 4.2 i do increase the voltage but it really makes no different...im going to try what you say ill get back to you soon

It's not the board. I run one too and i run my 8320 at 5Ghz. However, my FX is a very lucky chip. It runs 4.2Ghz @ 1.2v. Thats 0.1 Undervolt!
Also make sure you disable AMD Cool&Queit
