Overclocking AMD Phenom II X6 1090T on Asus Crosshair IV Formula MoBo

I would like to experiment with overclocking my new hardware, including the Asus ATI5850 DirectCU I have.

However, I want to do it in a manner where I am not overly pushing my stuff, as I don't have a backup budget to replace something if I fry it.

This might be redundant, but here is a link on the forums to my rig with the build I finished yesterday with the specs if they help:

My question is, what is a decent overclock that will be faster than stock on my hardware but not go beyond the risk of hardware failure?

I know how to mess around with the overclocking features in the BIOS, but I would like advice on how to do a safe but RELIABLE overclock on the GPU, CPU and RAM.

Get hwmonitor and watch core temperature. Don't go beyond the high 50C's.

I understand I need that, but I am talking about help setting up a baseline overclock and getting help setting up the BIOS for it.

I'm also asking for help from people with experience with this processor as to what it likes and doesn't like.

start by lowering ur multiplier then raise the fbs watch ur mem spd as I have found anything over say 1700mhz wont boot and gives me a failed oc message. once ya get ur top end fsb start working the multi up. might need to tweak nb and cpu/nb voltages as well.

I can boot mine into windows at 4.4Ghz but not bench 4.2Ghz seems to be the sweet spot on mine for all round. But I run it at 4Ghz for everyday use. As that uses less vcore.

Well, I got it up to 3.7 GHz, which I know is conservative for this processor.

I don't want to push my hardware too hard, so while I have tried OC'ing to 3.9 GHz, I think I'll play it on the safe side and leave it at 3.7

I will admit, I just used the OC profiles built into the motherbhoard, I didn't do any tweaking myself.

on that CPU 3.8-4Ghz should be enough of a performance increase and stress would be dependant on volts.

I cant get higher than 3.9 on my 1100t by multi alone and my bios doesnt save changes so i cant increase the FSB to make up the 2-300Mhz id like extra....for now...

I have my 1090T at 4 ghz for everyday use, I have benchmarked at 4.2 but don't like to push it if not needed. But yeah anything between 3.8 and 4 ghz is perfectly fine.

(Note: I am using the Sabertooth 990fx not the Formula IV)
