overclocking 920 on p6t-deluxe

Ya Mother

New member
Hi, im using this as a guide to overclocking my 920 Do on a asus p6t-deluxe http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2008/11/06/overclocking-intel-core-i7-920/1 ....i done everything on the bios screens as shown but when i try to set the ram voltage to 1.65 and press enter it automatically goes to 1.66??

I was told by webbo NOT to go over 1.65v with this ram.

I also wanted to change the ram settings to default settings of 7,8,7,20 but cant seem to figure this out neither.

Hey Ya Mother,

Im in the same boat as you, when manually entering the voltage as 1.65 mine also jumps up the extra notch. To be honest with you i havent had any problems yet, it also does this on the cpu voltage setting.

What speed are you shooting for with the cpu? Are you water cooling? and do you have the lastest bios on the board? Im using 1504 at present.

Im currently running my 920 @ 4.2ghz on the same board but under water.

With the following settings in the bios.

Ai Tweaker Page

=================

AI OC Tuner = Manual

CPU Ratio = 21

Speedstep = Disabled

BCLK = 200

PCIE = 101

Dram = 1603

UCLK = 3208

Dram timings i havent touched at the mo, but looking at them they are set to my ram.

CPU Voltage is 1.36250

Everything else re voltages i have set to auto at the moment.

At the bottom of the page i have..

Load Line Calibration = Enabled. this should stablise the voltage to your cpu

CPU Diff Amp = Auto

CPU Clock Skew = Auto

Spread Spectrum = Disable this can cause stability issues with an oc when on

IOH Clock Skew = Auto

PCIE Spread Spectrum = Disabled as with the Spread Spectrum can cause issues

Then on the CPU Config under advanced tab

CPU Ratio 21

C1E Support = This i disable as it can cause oc stability issues, others leave enabled though

Hardware Prefetcher = Enabled

Adjacent Cache = Enabled

Intel Virt = Disabled i dont run any vm

CPU TM = Disabled, again can cause stability issues with an oc. As before though others do leave it enabled

Execute Disabled Bit = Enabled

Intel HT Tech = Enabled, some people disable why oh why!!

Active Proc Core = All

A20M = Disabled but i cannot remember why (sorry)

Intel SpeedStep = Disabled can cause stability issues when it cuts voltage to the cpu (plus i want full power 100% of the time)

Intel C-State = Disabled

Well i hope that little lot is of some use to you. If your air cooled though dont go anywhere near the 1.36v on the cpu ;) and dont go thinking you will get 4ghz+ without that cpu running like a three legged dog at a greyhoud track as the temps will throttle it.

Edit

=====

Hope that makes some sense to you, its getting late :)

Hmm....need to read up on i7 properly man, this looks pretty dif to 775 etc overclocking......what r the max voltages the processor can take?

Im just using the same settings on the bit-tech.net link ....4.0ghz...i set my dram voltage to 1.64v and it seems ok.....just need my ram timings at 7-8-7-20 then im good to go.

watercooled and at 1.35v :)

Max vCore: 1.3750

Max vRAM: 1.65

Max vVTT: 1.3750 althought there's doubt here. Intel sheets say 1.65 but my motherboard gets red LEDs all over when I set it. Got to say it clocked like hell with that voltage xD

Basically keep raising your baseclock (BCLK) and voltages and keep lowering multipliers where needed until you're not stable anymore. QPI can in theory get to 8gHz but mine seems to die around 7gHz.

New bios 1605 is out

Heads up,

1605 is out.

P6T Deluxe 1605 Bios

1. Support new Express Gate version

2. Fix system may hang after resume from S3

Wonder what the support new express gate version is all about? i cannot see a recent express gate update on the site.

Express gate is a nice util to have

Will boot the mobo into a unix desktop in seconds from a 512mb ssd (built into the mobo) which is handy, you can browse the web, check email and all sorts with it.

If your not running raid you can also access your hdd which could be handy to recover any docs and such if the drive fails to boot for what ever reason.

I have it disabled 99% of the time though, i like a fast boot into my os.

I was wondering why it says in the bios supports new version of the express gate when there isnt one though :( lol.

Shame a way hasnt been found to slip an xp install onto it instead though. Now that would be cool.

Sorted most things out today....just put dram voltage at 1.64v and manually put in ram timings....got 4.0ghz...........

then upped the bclk and voltages a tad and got 4.3ghz.......

Very nice.

Mind telling me what settings you used for 4.3ghz?

Is it stable?

By stable I mean for gaming and everyday use. I cant say im one for testing with prime for 8 hours plus to make sure my machine is stable for scientific use ;)

bclk was 215 x 20 at 1.45v prime stable for over an hour. know what you mean about people saying they tested it for 12 hours and ****....since when do you have all 4 cores running at 100% on everyday use?....nevermind for 12 hours?

I only had it at 4.3ghz for benching.....clocked it back to 4.0ghz for 24/7 use. :)

You will be fine at 200 x 21 for 24/7 use. Possibly at 1.34v or 1.35v

Thats what i use.

Nice clocks btw, were the temps ok?

Looks like you have a better chip than me, mine wouldnt entertain 215x20 :(

Could well be the mobo also though as mine is the v1 p6t deluxe

temps were a bit high on the 4.3ghz clock....fine for 4.0ghz tho....might try the 200x21....the only difference i can see between the v1 and v2 is the v1 has 7.1 audio and the v2 has 8.1. i just got mine for the palm controller. :wavey:

Just had another go at clocking this 920 Do as im off work (tried to sever me hand off with a large hacksaw)....and got this..............4.5ghz.
