Well am I the only one who feels that our computer over clock crazy hobby kinda sucks? It's fun, it's powerful, it's hot but it's EXPENSIVE. Like seriously, I think we may have one of the most expensive normal hobbies out there. It's fun but it's damnnnn expensive. Especially if you're 14 and your parents dislike the spendage of $$.

Totally agree, even though im 15. Trying to stay up there with a nice computer and game systems (Getting the 360 soon =]) and yet having to save money for car/insurance :(

Gets way expensive way quick :(

Have you tried modifying cars? Flying remote control airplanes? Remote control cars? How about Golf?

Every hobby costs money it's just PC parts are more changeable than most things

I used to modify my car (mostly car audio) and that cost a fortune!

Kemp once again hits the nail.

Seriously, i know people who spend more on alcohol on a friday that i do on my computer. And im throwing circa £400 into cooling alone.

Well part of it is, when you buy a RC plane, it works and that's it. If you buy a good RC plane, it'll always perform well unless you screw it up. If you a buy a nice golf club, it'll stay nice unless you mess it up, same with car audio. With computers, you can buy a top of the line system now, but within a year, it'll be mid range. That's what I hate the most about our hobby. The continuous change of what's "in" and what's "out"

But every hobby can get out of hand mate - my friend bought a £12k Civic and spent £6k+ on it

Then sold it for £7k

When I was @ Uni I spent 1.8k on drink in two months! Yes PC parts are changeable, but the cost is usually in small(er) chunks than say buying a £4000+ top-line Golf set.

Yea and trust me, it makes computers look cheap, I must have around £3000 worth of gear and the average spare part costs around £20

Ye I know my cousin does it too. Damn cool but damn expensive

Dont even get me started on my new hobby "Gambling":(

When I was younger (14-16, around 1974) there wernt computers for ANY price. If there were we NEVER would have been able to get a $300 ANYTHING..:)

You new kids are much more lucky than we were.

The other day I was looking at a Pentium2 CPU and in its day I think it was like $1200.. Now you get a CPU a million times better for $200..

You got it made...:worship:

PS: we had PONG:D

Hell I'm 23, make a good living, and even I think this hobby is too ridiculously expensive. I've even tried to get away from it about 4 times now, but I just seem to keep coming back for more. I wish we could just have a 3 or 4 year lull in advancement ;)

I usually stop a hobby in about a year, not with this one (unfortunately) :(

i wish my hobby was "overclocking OLD pc's"

would be a hell of a lot cheaper

infact i may chrogenically freeze myself for 5 years, and then when im back, spend the next 5 years catching up on old technology, the cpu's would be very cheap :D

And then there are "shoe heads" Have hundreds, even thousands of pairs of shoes, each like $100 a pop average, and they buy the new shoes as they come out

But with comps, say you havea Pentium D and like C2D came out, you buy a new mob and CPU, then quad core comes, you buy a new mobo and cpu again. I still think computer overl

ing is one of the most pricy hobbies out there. But oh well :P

kite surfing is pretty expensive, your meant to have 2 or 3 boards (usually £400- £1000 each), 3 or 4 different kites for different conditions (about £400 - £1500 each) then your insurance, safety kit. somewhere to surf, too bloody cold in the uk. hotel for the weekend, flight, food, i could go on...

Nobody is forcing you to adopt to the latest and greatest, especially quad core. If you're happy with the performance that you have now, then stick with that until you can afford to upgrade to something better. I own a C2D, and the only reason I want a Quad core is so that I can slam it into my F@H farm LOL. Further, you'll find that overclocking to many members here is more than a hobby...stamp collecting or owning 5001 different tea cosies is a hobby. Overclocking is a passion :D
