OS X and Mobile getting more cyber attacks

Cyber attacks are increasing amongst Apple OS X and Mobile users. Perhaps we should all get round to installing an Antivirus on our vulnerable tech.

Whenever one is hit, the other won't be far behind mobile wise it seems. There has been some incredibly clever stuff that's been found this year.

Yup. APT (Advanced Persistent Threats) and all that. A combination of antivirus and antimalware software should provide sufficient protection for most cases.

Ahhh APTs :)

One of the most vulnrable users of Apple products are those that Jail Break their device,

Windows has more market share, so of course is targetted more.

MacOSX has less share so isn't targetted much often, however I wouldn't say that 100,000 infected users is that high of a number.

Proper education and training and using anti-malware is what's needed here.

and to be fair, I think Apple is somewhat at fault here.. "Mac doesn't get PC viruses" Adverts, and their rep bangs on about it too. It's almost social engineering them not to use AV products.

The Applestore here has people who actively advise against AV for macbooks. Particularly the macbook air. They end up with browser hijacks that keep diverting them and are a pain to get rid of.

Serious? wow.

The relatively heavy duty AV Cambridge University gives out to students (I'm a tech guy at one of the colleges) doesn't affect the performance on airs, so I'm not entirely sure where they got that statement from.

They are really not helping improve the image of mac users.

Yeah, it's a rediculous statement to make to be fair.

Yes, OSX doesn't get Windows based virus's for obvious reasons, but as a penetration tester myself it's still as easy to get root on a Mac, and thus AV and general protections are highly advised.

I'll be heading to my Apple store soon, and I'll query them on what they think about AV's on MacOSX
