Ok, looking at some of the benchmark results on XS, Ive decided against an FX57 and decided to get a S939 Opteron. It will be going on a DFI SLI-DR. Is it worth the extra £75 for the 150UP, or should I just get the 148UP for £165. Some people can get 3ghz+ on air out of a 144, so i'm looking for a wee bit higher with my water. Obviously the money i save by not buying an fx can either go towards a machIIgt or towards 2 7800GTX 512s lol

(note: This will be my first AMD so i'm gonna be noob'in it up rather a lot lol)

Clocks should be roughly the same - depends whether you need the extra multi (12x instead of 11x) - what ram are you using?

To start with i'll be using 2x512 GeIL PC4400 Ultra Platinum (currently have) but I'll eventually get sumfin like GSkill or OCZ EL. I might just get the 148 and save myself £75.

Well as long as you're using nice high HTT ram and only looking for air clocks you should only need the 148. Why not get the Mach 2 AND the 7800s? In fact, as head of EPUK benching team I order you to get both . But seriously I hope you will bench for us.

Now i know the 2x7800GTX 512's are overkill but i was originally planning on shelling out for an FX-57 so I have a lot of spare cash to play with.

And i'm determined to order a MachIIgt befor xmas lol

Excellent. As long as you're watercooling with that setup you should be able to make a good top10 contribution for the team.

When you get a mach you'll be gunning for top (If I can't help it).

I'd say there's barely anything in it.

Yeah I don't stand a chance in pcmark without a good HDD (hint nick25) or x2 (any donations anyone?). As for the 3dmarks I look forward to rivaling you once more.

Yeah it's lonely at the top .

One raptor is sufficient for those scores, so thats not even a real reason but you will need an x2 to beat me - but then again the scores I got with my X2 were impressive in 3dmark (whoped everyone in 03 and was less than 100pts behind you in 05).

My tuppence: The Opto dual-cores have the potential to outclock the X2, if the single-core results are anything to go by.

Buy the highest multi you can afford, learn from my mistake Even if you`re staying above ambient for now, it`ll give you some space for Mach action.

With a DFI, theres no excuse to not have some butt-kicking BH-5

As for the X2 those non-FM approved ones looked well tuned but remember I only had about a week of benching with working cards and then consider how long you spent tweaking.

Oh well x1800s should be hard to break with voltmod via ATiTool (yay I got the beta with Vcore, VDD, VDDQ tweak off W1zzard). The real benching is yet to come...

Did not get to tweak that much - we both ran into problems within a few days - and i had completed all my benchies about 2 days after I re-fitted the SLI set-up - with a full image loaded, not even using my bencing image, as there was no need

F Y I - the current WHQL nvidia crivers actually produced a lower score on my FX set-up - provong that they do take advantage of some multithreading action, but a score is a score in the eyes of the Mbot, which is what counts.

I will be gettin new memory deffo, just not right away (this is already beedin me dry and the girlfriend will freak if she actually knew how much I'm spendin lol). GeIL One BH-5 or OCZ Gold BH-5???
