Only 34% of PC gamers game at 1080p

A large portion of the CSGO community (which is obviously one of the larger games on Steam) use 4:3 stretched, often at a far lower resolution than native; this is done to make the models in game bigger and hence easier to shoot. Not a massive thing but it could be a contributing factor :)

I have yet to have a single computer that has a 1080p display, my main rig has 1280x1024 19" and my new laptop has the standard 1366x768(I was planning to get a gaming box, but there has been nothing that has tickled my fancy recently)

another issue with the steam hardware survey is that every person who has an AMD module based processor is surveyed as having half the cores it truly has - though at least it counts threads

Why though if you don't mind me asking ? A decent IPS 1080P monitor is cheap as chips nowadays.

Oddly enough you were the first person to mention pc master race or consoles. ;)

There was an image on the main article which showed ps4 gaming res as sub 1080p which simply isn't true. Also there was that pc master race head. I'm just going by the inaccurate images on the main page.

You realize you're continuing this right? Anyway to put it to rest, not all Console games are 1080p. Most are 900p scaled up to 1080p, even on the ps4. Even then the few games that are 1080p, they run 30fps. That's hardly impressive. Those images are accurate for the most part. In the end does it even matter? No. Does it even make a difference in visual quality when most console players sit 10ft away from the screen? No. So let's just drop it. It's not a big deal, it's just how it is. I play on both a PS4 and Xbone. For what they are they are great, PC is just better in every way because more power to work with. Just how it is.

/console vs pc debate.

I'm still on 1080p, and I likely will be for another while.

I want my next monitor to have either FreeSync or G-Sync, but I'm hoping that some universal standard will be adapted so I'm not stuck to one GPU manufacturer. Could be a while. :p

While great for gaming, IPS panel are only really a benefit to graphic designers who want true colours.

This is what I'm actually struggling with.

I don't really mind the difference between TN and IPS as you can tune the TN to be near IPS but I'm looking at selling my 4K monitor and getting a 1440P 144Hz Freesync monitor.

Either the BenQ XL2730Z which is a 1440P 144Hz TN but pretty much better in every way than the ROG Swift in the colour and performance department and it has a Freesync range of 40Hz-144Hz

Or

The Asus MG279Q which is 1440P 144Hz IPS, A lot less features than the BenQ and only has a Freesync range of 35Hz-90Hz.

Dam that realy defeats the point of geting a 144hz monitor if you cant even go past 90hz with freesync on why would they do that?

I think it's a limitation of Freesync on IPS monitors as there is no actual module unlike G-Sync.

I'm actually leaning towards the BenQ as their monitors look great, Clean lines and has a butt ton of features.

It's basically a ROG Swift on steroids ^_^

Have you tried tftcentral and use their selector tool? I love his reviews of panels as he actually rips them apart and tells 100% truths about the build quality and performance.

Well he said the BenQ was superior to the ROG Swift in every way but I haven't read the review about the MG just yet.

many csgo players even with good 144hz 1080p panels will stay with 800x600/4:3, for various reasons.

lets not forget f2p are skewing these numbers massively also they didn't mention 1080p+, just 1080.

It's just a current limitation with the scalar's in monitors currently. That's why Nvidia decided to build their own so they didn't have to wait for the tech to catch up. So overtime the scalar's should improve.

Exactly although sometimes the facts do need to be put straight and while I like consoles I'm oh so tired of hearing console only owners thinking their purchase has the ability to match a £1000 PC, The complete lack of common sense and education on that front really annoys me.

This just get so many +1's that it's ridiculous. I've been in and over heard so many conversations going into this topic and it's just ends up with me wanting to smash my head into the wall because people being too thick headed.

Although, maybe it's just me that explains it like a smug... how would you explain it, put it out simple to a person like that Dicey?. If I may ask.

Dice I have heard nothing but positive things about BENQ gotta be a safe bet getting one of those dude :)

I'm running three 24" 1080 panels but due to Nvidia surround limitations it only runs at 1680 x 1050 (x3) thanks to sync polarity. I know there are work arounds but they're hit and miss and either kill my driver requiring a reinstall after a shut down or glitch out. It looks amazing when it works tho.

I think the main reason apart from the laptop resolutions for the relatively small percentage of use above 1080 is that the average graphics card is still quite pushed at 1080 with decent settings. I can't access the info as I'm at work and steam is blocked but I recall the average card is something along the lines of a 750/760 or equivalent.

I'd love to upgrade to a 3440x1440 ultrawide so in a few months maybe. We keep getting teased by the holy grail tho being so close (for me that's 34" 3440, 144hz, Gsync and less than the price of my kidney)

1080 (dual screens and now triple) has done me fine since at least 2009. Monitors don't get replaced very often by the average user.

I'd just explain the differences in hardware.

I explained it to a work friend of mine who thinks consoles are magical boxes powered by pixie dust and unicorn splurge that they are basically very low end PC's, He called me a liar and said consoles have a lot of power that's why PC component manufacturers don't stand a chance, Basically talking to a wall -_-

Thanks for the input, Think I am gonna go with the BenQ, IPS is nice but the BenQ's panel is as close to being an IPS without being an IPS and TFTCentral did say it's currently the best gaming monitor edging out the swift in terms of speed, Colour, Features etc etc.

I do game at 1080p.
All i want is for my system to run everything at 1080p with a Min of 60fps. so im pretty happy to buy what i have to so i can manage that.
Sometimes i will need to reduce a feature here or there but for the most part i can play near enough anything maxed out at 1080p.
