Hello all,

I just went to some of our online stores and found the following:

Intel SB-E Prices:

Chip:

Intel Core i7-3820 Quad-Core, Socket LGA2011

FOR: $304.00 CAD

MotherBoard:

Asus Rampage IV Formula Socket 2011 Intel x79 Chipset Quad-channel for 375.00 CAD

or

Asus Rampage IV Extreme Socket 2011 Intel x79 Chipset Quad-channel for 419.00 CAD

* not sure which one to get, any help would be great

INTEL IB

Chip: IB 3770K $370.00 CAD

MotherBoard: ASUS Maximus V Formula Z77 Motherboard price not listed however it should be around $340.00 CAD (based on Maximus IV Fromaula for Z68)

Any input would be great need to buy asap since CPU is on special for LGA2011. Going to Watercool and do some OC'ong nothing crazy just a nuwbie on this. Playing games and doing other things with computer. Got 2 EVGA 579HD cards (non water cooled)

I know that there will be a price difference however it is not that much maybe $100 more

Thanks for any responses

The 3820 is a quad core, so is the 1155. They perform exactly the same.

If you want to have fun overclocking get a 2600k, IB is fickle because of it's thermal capacity.

Or to be honest get a 2500k, if "playing games and doing other things" doesn't involve video/photo rendering or music production etc. You'll save yourself a lot of money...

2011 is really only for people that need more then 4 cores(a waste for gaming as it gives no benefit) or more then 2 gpu's. my advice would be the new ivy bridge 1155's + z77 mb or older z68 +2500,2600 or 2700 cpu. put the money you save into a bank and wait for haswell or gpu/monitor upgrade.

Can I buy a Z77 motherboard and use an and IB chip on it? I am looking at the 2700K (they have a really good deal) however I was thinking of purchasing a Z77 board. What would I loose or not gain buy doing this compared to going with a 3770k which is more expensive then the 2700k chip. I have 4 drives (2 ssd and 2 Black Western digital Sata 3 drives) which I would like to have on the sata 3 connectors. Looks like I can hook all for to sata 3 connectors on the Z77 but I do not see that on a Z68 board.

That's perfectly acceptable

The sata and USB controllers are all housed on the mobo.

The pcie controller is housed on the cpu. The SB 1155s (2500/2600/2700) only have pcie2 controllers so that will limit you vs the IB 1155 but that won't matter with your cards (2x 5790s yea?)
