What the.... f***?!?!?!?? S_I_N buying an AMD card! It's all true, the world is going to end this year.....

lol mate I've had AMD before and was once a die hard ATI fan but phear not I'll be helping the poor AMD card out with an Nvidia card along side it

Am i confused? Why not use DVI for the 120Hz monitor?

edit: Sorry, forgot:

HAHA

lol monitor only has HDMI and DP

worked a trade for my 570 minus the block for a 6950 I think it'll do me decent enough specially with the Nvidia card pushing it along

Plus the 2Gb of vram will be a welcome addition. I know my 570 is worth a few$ more than a 6950 but he's willing to ship firt and give me a few days to play with it before I ship mine out.

TBH ive had more problems with drivers over the years with my 7800gtx (had from release till 8800gt release) and my 8800gt (had from release up until till january) than i did with my old 4850 crossfire setup (ran them for around 8 months and got them at release, REALY regret selling them as soon as i did).

My vote would be for a 7870/7950 depending on how much you would get for your 570, 7870 is going to come in at around the 350 mark at a guess as newegg has droped its 6970 options was down and non are in stock anyway since i last checked and it doesnt look like they are getting any more stock in.

and @timba its the backwards evga HD version, its messed up in ALL the ways.

Why not buy an DVI to HDMI cable? You can get a single cable without adapters and shiz.

Were does this thing that AMD has had buggy drivers? They did a little at the 5xxx series BUT THAT WAS IT! I have had EVERY driver on my 6990 and only TWO were bad (both of which were BETA drivers). My 560ti rig has had WAY more buggy drivers than my AMD 6990 RIG has had. IT'S A MYTH!!!

good to know bro good to know I only know what i read and in truth I dont read alot about AMD stuff anymore.

oh and to confirm dvi to hdmi is still 60Hz

You will have no problem with drivers. AMD has come a long way in making their drivers right the first time.

I'm confused with the HDMI.

Sky3D works over HDMI... which I believe requires 120.

EDIT: ATI drivers were always a pita for me - and I aint kidding, not just personal cards - I mean over 100s of installs. AMD however, I've not had a problem to date.

that will be the duty cycle of the signal sending the data not of the actual picture

In fact sky 3D may be slightly different as it runs side by side so it will probably be just receiving the standard 30HZ picture and the the TV will refresh at 60 showing each half of the picture alternatively

Yeah I see what you mean. The increase in the pixel rate for the higher speed just allows for larger resolutions and not refresh rates.

I think you're right about the Sky 60/30 too cos on many standard HD tvs you can see the 3d outputted screens side by side.

Still not sure tho, I thought it was a 120 screen required - or you get to see the side-by-side picture on a 60. Like I got a 60 and I see the Sky3d as a dual screen cos it's not up to it.

it may be a limitation of the monitor I dont know for 100% sure but its hooked up hdmi atm and only 60Hz when I had the display port working it showed at 120Hz I'll research it more later

Was thinking about this yesterday. It could be that the 120 monitors are clever.

In so much as the gfx source outputs something like (2x1920) x 1080 x 60 and the monitor splits the resolutions. ??? Not really splits, but runs at double the frequency to achieve ..... gah!

... might be grasping at straws a bit tho ...

not totally sure on that Rast but all I know is I'm back on display port and running 120Hz and when hooked up HDMI it drops to 60Hz Yes I am now running an AMD 6950 with an GTX260 to help it where it needs help. Must say the 2 together give me the same performance in BF3 and Crysis 2 (all I have tested so far)

erm, either my info is outdated. but. last time i knew you cant run a physx card in the same system with a amd card installed, the nvidia software wont run if it detects amd hardware....

if you install the nvidia drivers ur right crappy performance BUT if you only install the nvidia physic's only software you'll be fine. besides looks like I may xfire 6950's after all
smile.gif
so the 260 will have to go as i only have 2 pci-e slots

6950s scale very well, should be very nice.
