Official OC3D Core i7 Overclocking thread

Yeah, I've managed to get mine to post at 5.4ghz, and get into windows and run Cinebench @4.9 but for stable and somewhat low voltages, I am gonna stick at 1.35, @4.5Ghz.

Using offset mode so it's hovering around 0.86 at idle.

This is the highest I'm daring to go on the Vcore, don't wanna fry my chip

/D

Sup guys, just wondering how long to leave prime95 running when testing overclock, how many tests shud be done so i know my rig is stable? I chose the blend test and its done 8 tests so far

8 hours I would call perfectly stable for a normal user, 8 tests appear due to 1 test per thread judging on you having a quad core with hyperthreading. (4 cores, 8 threads)

How do I get that CPU-Z validator banner? I managed to run prime95 for 1 hour on my i7-2600k at 5.65GHz @1.56v and temps hovering around 85 celsius with my H100 set to high. For some reason I haven't managed to achieve that OC anymore though, my CPU won't go past 5.4GHz now :/

To get the banner you run CPU-Z and click validate if I remember correctly, but seriously, I hope you're not planning on using the overclock for 24/7 use haha.

LOL hell no, it was just for benching. I did get in the top 5 results for my hardware in 3dmark though, so that was nice

managed to push my 6970s to 1095 core and 1745 mem @ 1,325v for 24/7 I have my 2600k at 4.7GHz@1.38v and the cards at 975/1500 @1,212

Awesome clocks man, just wanted to check haha

With Ivybridge being a bit of a let down, I'm trying to push my i7 920. What do you guys deem as a max safe Vcore for the i7 920? I'm running 21x191BLK atm @4009 Ghz. Temps are 67 degrees with the Noctua, so they're fine. I've switched off Hyperthreading as I just use the rig as a games machine. My CPU is C0 stepping, so does require a bit more juice than the D0 stepping models.
