Official OC3D Core i7 Overclocking thread

oh lol

I was wondering what voltages i should try out.

Right now my vcore is 1.45

pll @ 1.88

QPI @ 1.5

Memory @ 1.8

IOH @ 1.2

ICH @ 1.2

any tips or advice would be awsome.

im trying to get it stable under a cooler master v10 cooler, but it doesn't seem to get into windows all the way unless i have 1.4 or high cpu voltage. I have a D0 i7 920 and i'm not sure what else to try, anyone have luck with the i7 920 to push it to 4.2ghz stable under air cooling?

Hi

System i7 950 6x2 mushking redline rampage 3 gene 750w power supply.

I am having some small issues with my oc i think it might me the ram settings or a seriously bad set of ram chips now if i run :

cpu ratio 20 x 200

ram @ 1605

i have tryed the 6-8-6-24 and also let it set its self

cpu volts 1.35

qpi 1.3

Dram 1.65 (1.64 wont even boot into bios)

the rest on auto

just cant get the above stable in prime get rounding up error followed buy a blue screen

now if i run

cpu ratio 21 x 189

ram @ 1515

I let it set its own ram timings

cpu volts 1.35

qpi 1.29

Dram 1.65

21 x 189 will run prime all night with no errors now u can see where i am going with this what can i do to get my ram to run at 1600 as you can see the cpu speed is roughly the same so i was thinking that the problem was not there what dose every one think.

You need to set the uclk clock to 2x the ram speed or it probs wont boot that high. Keep pushing for 200x20 you just need to set it up properly.

thanks just put those settings in do i need to set the qpi link rate manualy also ?

the options i have are:

auto

slow mode

7218MT/s

8821MT/s

9624MT/s

update after seting the uclk to 3208 failed prime after 10 mins is it posable i have bad ram chip

update 2 after going away runing memtest big fail in 3 mins as i thought bad module grrrrrrrrr all those hours wasted ah well at least i know its the memory and not my settings returning for a new set

update 3 after testing them one at a time i found that one ram chip was not showing up on my mobo so after some cleaning seems to be working now testing agin lets hope it was some dirt (note to mushking dont eat fried chicken before packaging ram lol joke ofc)

i7-930 @ 3.8 Ghz for 24/7 usage - passes 24 hours of Prime and 18 hours of Memtest before I got bored of my machine just running stability tests. Top temps around 70C

Here's my BIOS template from my X58A-UDR3R with 6GB of Dominator CL8 RAM

200 x 19 - I need to have another go at getting it up to 4.2 which is my holy grail! Maybe a Noctua might help as I've currently only got a Zalman Quiet 10x cooler

Hi...

Just looking for a cheek of my setting...

Does that look good ? Some advices ? thx

I7 920 do on air at 4009

corsair 1600 7-7-7-20 6gb (nb frequency 3054)

p6t7 deluxe

850 watt ps

bus speed 191

multiplier 21

BCLK 191

CPU voltage 1.33125

DRAMM 1.64

QPI/DRAMM 1.25

pass 10 time intelburntext at max

temp idle 37-40 load 73-78

Speedstep, Spread Spectrum C1 disable

blue screen when running intelburntest at 4.2 with bclk 200 advice for that to ?

one more thing... windows 7 dont read the cpu speed correctly. bios and cpuz read it a 4 ghz but

in windows 7 it appear at 3.82. I don t think its a big deal but its really annoying me.

thx for advice

Hi!

Very noob about the OC thing, have got my system to run at 4.2ghz, it will run 3dmark vantage 3dmark 11 heaven bench and so on, no problems, score just over 27,5k(cpu score 70084)
biggrin.gif
with vantage.

Can run my games no problem, havnet got one bsod on any of my "daily" uses.

But!!! prime at 3' or 4' worker(test #) it pushes it over the edge and bsod's:(

Using water cooling(but for now using a single 3.120 rad with single fans for both cpu and gpu, (but will get another rad in later on, and push pull on cpu will propably help alot)

idle temps 45-50c, play temps 50-55, prime temps 80-89:/ high for shure, but thinking its managable considiring.

Think i have to use a little to much volts on the i7, using 1,4125 isch on my clock.

i dont know what numbers u guys need to tell me a little about what i can do to get it "prime stable", so plz let me know what u need.

watched TTL vids and got a lot of help from what he says in he's vids:D lastly today he sayed something about getting the qpi volts right, and i thougt to myself aha theres the answer(?)ive been looking for, havent touched it yet.

edit: have set it to 1.4 so have touched it, but had dram V set to auto, changed it 1.65 just know, and it ran prime like a champ for 10 mins. know this is low timer but couldt get there before:D

So, i am wondering what can i do to get the V on the cpu lower, thereby getting temps down i guess:?

And please in plain english(nooooob<----me)

nooooob from Norway, regards:D

got my cpuz validate here: http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1684954

And ive just done a lil overclock on me i7 920 DO, its now running at 3.336 mhz at 1.15 volts stable!

Its being cooled by a 280 mm Radiator, which im sure has a lot more headroom left for more speed, but im quite happy with this and i want to keep the volts

down as much as possible, still a nice 600+ mhz overclock on that voltage.

I am not that great when it comes to overclocking I have really no computer experience with it because up till last year I had not built my own system in many years and companies don't want overclocked systems so I have a few question about this because I am not sure that this is really a good overclock. Mind you this is me reading here in the forums and watching many hours of videos on Youtube before I tried this out. Below are the settings I made changes to. If there are questions or concerns I will do what I can to fill in the information.

Hardware:

i7 950 (DO) 3.06

EVGA FTW3

GSkill Ripsaw 8 8 8 24 1.5v 3x 4G = 12G 1600

Corsair H70 with two Silverstone 120mm Air Penetrator Fans

GTX580 from Gigabyte Windforce 3 @ stock/OC 795/950 volts 1000/1150 not sure what the shaders are set to( I am at work doing from memory) the Memory is 2004/2300 this all runs stable.

Case Silverstone Raven 02 White

CPU Vcore 1.1275

Memory 2:8 @ 1530 1.55v 7 8 7 22

CPU 191 x 21 = 4.01

the rest is auto and I can make it stable at these settings but, I can't seem to get above that RAM speed and if I change the multiplier it fails even if I give it more volts not over 1.4 on the CPU Vcore if there is any help that can be given it would be great.

TTL tells me you all are very helpful so I look forward to your reposes.

Up the QPI volts. drop the multi to 20 and up the BCLK to 200.

If you had read ANY of the 1366 overclocking threads on here youd already know that

OK im aware the voltages are a tad on the high side but this is what i use 24/7 but thats about as high as it gets as that was taken during a 3DSMax Render with VRAY enabled and all on the CPU and im not particularly worried with the voltage.

PC:

Core i7 950 @ 4.21GHz - 183.37 * 23

Asus Rampage III Extreme

24GB Patriot Sector 7 Viper II 1600MHz 9-9-9-24

Corsair H70 + 2x Coolermaster SickleFlow and MX3 TIM (37°c idle/67°c load - room temp : 32°c)

XFX HD6950 flashed to HD6970

Corsair AX850

Silverstone RV02-E

Tom thank you for taking the time to eye my specs and give your advice I have found the thread and read all the relevant threads and more to figure out the tricks and tweaks your speaking of. I feel daft for not reading things first all the way threw here before calling in the advanced help. Hope you have a great weekend sir and look forward to giving you my end results in a few days like you I stay busy most of the time. So when I have time I tweak my settings. Anyway enuf pounding the keys and making the read longer.

Enjoy the vids and your advice is greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Tom thanks again here is my CPU Z validation for my rig I have learn something today and it feels great.

Ok Boys here is mine i Hope you like it ! This I7 980 does this easy ..4.0 is no Problem at all , this is my 24/7 Gaming setting right now..

After months of working hard at work and finishing my wedding I finally had more time to sit and work on my rig and overclock here is my final CPU -Z Dump.

Just got my new I7 2700k setup hit 4.8ghz across cores on 1.34vcore without any problems ^.^ no other adjustments but vcore. Looking forward to seeing what optimization I can get! Doubt I willincrase the voltage much more though. 60degrees on full load with intel burn test cpu-z/screens/pics of rig coming sooon.
