Odd cpu load issue

My i5 2500k has been acting weird lately and two of the cores are at 50-75% load while I'm doing absolutely nothing I checked my task manager and exited out of everything even things in the tray like hamachi and EVGA precision but nothing. I don't have any overclocking done yet since I'm still rocking the intel stock cooler (

). My motherboard is the ASRock extreme 4 gen 3 p67 but like I said haven't done anything in the bios except adjust the cpu fan settings. So far the only solution I can find to make the problem go away is restarting my computer but since I don't have an SSD this is quite annoying. Also the load issue is always with the core 0&1 or core 2&3. I tried googling but no one seems to know so trying this forum.

I don't know about anyone else but to me this sounds suspiciously like a virus/malware, have you done any scans lately? Furthermore if the process that is doing this is hiding from task manager it makes even more sense.

hmm perhaps I will run a scan but I don't think it is as it only appears sometimes like after do something load intensive like play a game

i suspect it is NET optimisation and/or Superfetch doing their stuff.

just leave the rig switched on for an hour, or so, doing nothing... it may fix itself

Seconded, there's usually only one reason you suddenly get a maxed out system out the blue.

Right so I ran a full scan on both my HDD's and no threats were detected then again I have Microsoft security essentials so I can't say it is truly safe but as far as I'm concerned people give it good feedback. But I never download stuff really other than a few things that my friends want me to get but they have real antivirus and scanned it first and they said no threats were found by their antivirus and I don't get any popups or weird things happening other than the load issue itself

it sounds like virus issue to me too.

try running few other anti-virus software.

a virus can not be always traced by an antivirus program.

before doing all that try what dugliamond said

if nothing of the above works last solution is formating the os disc

you need to run something better than MSE really.

Ideally you want a live boot CD such as hirens or if you want to start looking for torrents........ look for MRI BDE 5.6, you may need some help in using the latter however

MSE is perfectly fine for real time protection. How ever ive found it to be a little hit and miss at finding stuff once its already hidden on the system, try something like malwarebytes if you want a 2nd opinion on the virus scan.

I think it was this ^ because I haven't seen it in a while now. I doubt it was a virus because there isn't anything else going on with my comp and I'm super careful about downloads/java driveby's and such I know there are other ways but so far I'm all good thanks
