OCZ ZT PSU fan replacement

Hi guys,
i an using an OCZ ZT psu atm and the only think that drives me nuts is the fan. After gaming for some time the psu gets pretty loud. On the website they say they have a standart 140mm fan inside but they do not mention the rpm. I have thought about open up the psu and replacing the fan with a quieter one. Maybe an Noctua NF A 14 FLX. But i am a bit concerned that the cooling power of this fan is too low to prevent my psu from taking damage. I am also not quite sure if the fan would simply fit in the psu when i take it apart and remove the loud fan.

Any help and ideas are greatly appreciated.

Regards Roooker

Replacing the fan should be fine.
I'd be very concerned about voiding the warranty of an OCZ PSU though. Wouldn't get anything back if it goes wrong, and also, if it took out the rest of your system, they wouldn't give you any help with that either.

I'd personally think about selling the PSU if it bothers you that much, and replacing the whole unit.

just got rid of my ocz psu and instantly my temps went down ?!?!? and i was able to drop the voltage of my overclock.. ive had 2 ocz ssd's die on me and the psu was obviously not doing its job properly

I am not gonna sell the psu because i just invested 2 days of work into the cable sleeving. I also can't afford to buy one of the somehow overpriced 150 bucks psu from lets say corsair and get some sleeved cables for them. I am just gonna replace the fan with a quiter one.

You get what you pay for. Sadly you bought a cheap shitty one.

I can live with that. I am happy with my Vertex 4 and i would recommend it to everyone. The psu ok it is loud but i am gonna replace the fan and it will be quite. I just dont get why ppl hate a certain company.

Certain OCZ SSDs like the Agility 3 has a 15% return rate after 1 year, whilst Crucials M4 range has a mere 0.82%. Not sure how anyone can recommend an OCZ SSD with figures like that. Especially as many like to RAID SSDs, which would then result in a 30% chance of one of the drives dying and you losing all the data on the array.

The PSUs also have a high return rate compared to other manufacturers such as Seasonic. When a Power Supply dies, they tend to take out every other component in your system along with it. So why would anybody risk a cheapo PSU.

Generally, OCZ cuts corners in order to save costs. They use cheap components within the SSDs and PSUs and so the quality will never be as good as with a Crucial or Seasonic equivalent - and the prices are pretty similar too.

You're lucky if you haven't experienced any problems - but don't think less of us for 'hating' a company that has a proven track record of using cheap components, and their products dying.

with it being quite a new vertex SSD with it being the 4 i would bet you SSD will fail in around 6 months, one day you will wake up turn you pc on and its wont boot you will crap yourself thinking sheep what blown up then you will notice the little red light on the back of your SSD and send it back... they usually do fail within the first year though so they are under warranty... you just loose all your data for nothing
