OCZ PC3200 Gold memory reviewed

Here's a great review on the BH5 by OCZ.

Looks pretty damn sweet :)

OCZ's PC3200 Gold Edition (BH5) RAM is undoubtedly the fastest RAM I have ever tested. I can say that with confidence. At a price that comes in under $160 for a 1GB kit, why in the hell aren't YOU running this RAM? BH5 is definitely the Lich King of the RAM kingdom. Even during its long absence no other successor has been able to usurp its dominance in the realm of overclocking. So, you have a DDR based system? My money says a simple upgrade to this RAM with some mild overclocking (or not) would probably net you some respectable performance gains alone. This RAM definitely deserves our second ever 10 out of 10 rating as well as the PimpRig Elite Gear award.

10/10 rating - :worship:

BH5 = pwnage but it doesnt reach those super high frequencies like the TCCD does... Mmmmm 300+mhz 1:1 :D

Man I'm gonna have to drop down to 9x multi and try to get some higher MHz out of this sucker.... :D

But TCCD does 240MHz at CAS 2 for me! :)

You could do but if you're doing that you may as well save and get the rest when you can afford it. ;)

or just buy from the states and get 1gb for the price of 512mb ;)

i could buy 512mb plat rev 2 tccd then get 512mb when i can afford it.

wouldnt recommend that mate. The OCZ Plat. Edit. Rev.2 Pc3200 ram is now officially using TCC5 instead of TCCD chips.

now TCCD on OCZ is on PC4800 and PC5000 ram only.

BTW the new geil Ultra-x PC3200 ram uses winbond UTT/BH5 die and is known to constantly hit 260 mhz and more with 2-2-2-5 timings.

Right now the best bh5/utt die based memories would be

1) Geil Ultra-X PC3200 - " New BH5 die "

2) Gskill GH model 1gb kit - " New BH5 die "

3) Mushkin Redline series - " Winbond UTT or CH5 die "

4) OCZ Gold VX PC4000 - " Winbond UTT or CH5 die "

The basic difference between the UTT/CH5 and the new BH5 is that CH5 needs high volts to start doing 2-2-2-5 but it gains more mhz with every bump of volts while the new bh5 has an erratic way of overclocking.

Goes to about 235 mhz with 3.0V at 2-2-2-5 . After that the gain is about 7-8 mhz per 0.1V bump in Vdimm . Not to mention the burn in required.

For gamers , i would recommend BH5 over TCCD as even with a divider bh5 performs faster than a higher overclocked TCCD ram running a 1:1 ratio.

Imma get a kit of either the gskill or the geil after the summer to rip loose on my NF4 with 4v Vdimm available at hand :D .

Redline has been giving mixed results lately.
