OCZ ModXStream Pro 500w or 700w?

Well at Play.com they have the ModXStream Pro 500W for £50 and the same 700W version for £52 so I really don't know whether to buy the 700W version. The only reason I might want to in case the 500W is not enough but the 700W might be overkill lol. I am going to be powering up a Q6600 at stock, 5770 overclocked, 4GB DDR2 RAM (4 sticks) and about 3 or 2 stock case fans (probs 80mm). From different PSU calculators I've been getting recommended power rating from 330W-450W. So should I buy the 500W or 700W?

go corsair if you can I dont think they are very good (someone back me up here) its just I havent herd good thinks about them

Already considered Corsair, the only option was the TX650 and I heard some people saying it had "coil whine" which was very loud and annoying and won't go well with my rather silent PC. Other than that the Corsair's I've seen are to far out of my budget. Tbh the ModXStream Pro should be fine since OCZ pretty decent company.

what about be quiet? or antec?

Well ye I considered Antec, found a decent PSU for about £60 from them but not that many people like their PSU's and as for Be Quiet they are still out of budget from the ones I'm looking at. Anyway I've made my decision stop suggesting different companies lol, just answer what the question in the thread is please.

The trouble is your choices are crap and we are trying to educate you and get you to buy something decent.

this site is where most of my knowledge about pcs is from, and Im telling you now ocz are NOT good at all, I know ur on a budget but either save a little more or if u want to have to keep replaceing your parts becuase ur psu either blew or just didnt work go for it, but seriosly think about it.

Corsair TX650 all the way mate. I have not heard anything bad about any of Corsair's newer PSU and pretty much everybody on here is using them

I think Corsair also has a CX series which has a 500W model in it. i haven't heard anything (neither positive or negative) about them yet, but that might be a more budget option aswell.

Just a quick note, do not skimp on the power supply because if your power supply breaks you run the risks of the other parts attached to it breaking aswell. So always use good quality power supply.

I know, but I've heard bad stuff about the new Corsair CX series but nothing really to bad about the Corsair TX series so I guess I'll end up going with that. Only problem is it might get a little messy in my case.

What case are you using? Well if the CX is bad then deffo go with the TX series cause they are great

I guess you guys are right, a lot of these "trusted" PSU companies aren't as reliable as I thought

. Here's a discussion I was having with someone who has had bad PSU experience and so far with his newest Corsair TX650 he is having no problems:

(I was asking him about which ModXStream unit he had purchased since he said he had to return two of them all in the same month, that's why he started of with "It was the 500 watt unit".)

It was the 500 watt unit. Usually, it can just be bad luck when you have problems with new power supplies that should be a decent unit. Actually, on the first one, the fan was hitting the grill and there was no way to fix it so I sent it back to the retailer. The 2nd one I got lasted one month and for whatever reason stopped working. I sent it back to OCZ and while waiting for another one I bought the Corsair. When I got the OCZ, I just turned around and sold it without even trying to see if it worked. They all come with a warranty, so you can always get them replaced.

I had an Antec 500 watt also that blew after just one year. It just popped and smoked so I knew it was done. I sent it back to Antec because it had a 5 year warranty and they sent me their new 550 watt model. It lasted 3 months and the PWM chip went bad causing the fan to run at full speed. I sent it back and and got another one and sold it without trying it out.

As long as they will replace them under warranty, then you should not have any concerns. It is just the downtime that you have which is generally around 2 weeks by the time you receive the replacement when sending them back to the manufacturer that's the bad part plus the cost to you of shipping it back to them.

Glad i came accross this thread, i was about to order a OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W because they where well priced.

I will order a Corsair Memory TX650W instead, sucks tho, money i will be spending was ment for a 2500k but my GPU has died and now i need to upgrade that and it will require the PSU upgrade too
