OC'ing 6870 crossfire

So far i am very happy with my 6870's but i dont mind seeing some fps increase without compromising the gpu's.

I am looking into over clocking them but at the same time i dont want to stress them. at stock settings they run at 40c and 44-47c. I kicked the gpu clock to 940 and mem to 1150 and so far without stress they run at 42c and 50c. I have not done any stress test but i am leaving the house as i type this so hopefully il see how hot they run when im home. as far as cooling goes i just have a hyper 212+ with stock single fan. Thanks

Well if you don't want to stress the GPU's but wanna overclock... I suggest you leave the voltages at stock and then you max out the clockspeeds. As far as I can tell 940mhz core is pretty much maxed out on stock voltages. (correct me if i'm wrong)

Then you could overclock the cpu a bit to gain some fps, if you havent done that yet?

Cheers

thank you for the response. I dont want to oc the cpu till i get a noctua since i was told that my hyper 212+ might be a risk. what do you think the mem clock should be? 1150 about right?

on Furmark the highest temps at 940 and stock mem clock i hit 74c on both cards, are those good temps?

i just tried 940 and 1150 but that got it up to 78-80c. now 920 and 1075 went up to 78. all of those tests are with stock fan speeds

I have been trying to find a cooler for my crossfire set up but so far i have not found ones that work or i am looking for the wrong thing, even if i do a small oc id like to buy a cooler for them

ok i think i have found my sweet spot, 920 and 1120 default fan speed and highest temp in furmark with 8x was 71c but stayed around 66c, i dont want to ask anymore noob questions but are those good temp numbers?

Yes they are v good temps... but by the looks of things the 6870 doesnt OC aswell as th 6850... i am currently running a 6850 at 825 on clock and 1100 on mem, which isnt much of an OC. This is on stock voltages with auto fan reaching 70% on load with temps of 62 max! I also see an increase in about 3-5fps... so all is good

maybe i can reach the mistical 100mhz core OC by getting it to 875 :/ ???
