occt help

None. Use OCCT Linpack. I am assuming your rig is in your sig? If so then enable AVX because your cpu supports it. If it is disabled it will damage your cpu.

I say dont use the linpack test. Not because itll hurt anything but because FX chips seem to handle linpack a lot easier than the standard stuff OCCT and Prime95 does. My 8150 would run thru Intel Burn Test which is linpack all day long at 4.8 GHz but would crash almost instantly under OCCT. 4.5 is the fastest I could get that would also be stable enough to pass OCCT (4-6 hours).

Linpack is good for a quick stress test while overclocking but I wouldnt rely on it to show if you have a stable overclock or not. The best way would be to run both of course. If you can make it thru both, then youre fine.

that prolly dates back to 65nm chips. the current 45/32/22mn just doesn't stress
the CPU enough with the AVX unticked.

OCCT help just state this "So, to make things short, tick only this box if your CPU supports AVX instructions. Leave it unchecked otherwise."

helpful :P

It's because it comes down to an architectural level of why it can damage your cpu( i think) so to keep it short... listen to them lol

Even Tom recommended Linpack in his 1155 OC guide. It's how he test so if you want compareable results use that:p

Intel and AMD are quite different architectures. My experience has been that Linpack doesnt stress AMD chips as much as the standard P95 type does, hence my massive IBT overclock that couldnt run OCCT for more than a few seconds. Judging from the posts on Overclock.net's AMD section, Im not the only FX owner that has experienced this.

Im not saying DONT use linpack, just that you need to make sure you run both. :)

Well IBT imo is very weak compared to P95(which i hate) and OCCT. But i'm unsure for Amd:p

i run OCCT 4.4.0 on my FX-8350 with no errors @ 4.9GHz 1.488vCORE topping
62° with a Tt xtreme 2.0 in silence. the temp graphs are FUBAR, so i use HWMonitor
for temp monitoring.
really no temp differences between OCCT, IBT or P95 in temps or logic errors
from my testing.

yeah but, how does it damage it? just saying "because it just does" isn't really helpful -.-

:edit: that could come off as insulting, not intended. I just interested to know

I think it has to do with AVX(enabled) properly using the entire cpu equally where as if it is not your only stressing certain parts of the cpu which causes harm to those specific parts.

wiki says "Reduces register load due to the non-destructive instructions."

as i'm assuming it damages the registers of the CPU by overloading.

Wiki isn't very reliable(and on these forums is usually insufficient proof) but essentially that is what i said stated. Just not in as much specifics:p
