OCCT Fail :(

Hi,

I've recently upgraded by RAM to Corsair Dominator GT 16GB (4x4GB).

I thought my system was stable before hand (seemed to be) but now I seem

to have a stability issue. Previously I was using 8GB of RAM 2 x 4GB sticks.

Specs:

Asus Maximus IV Extreme (latest BIOS 2302)

2600K @ 4.6Mhz (on water)

Corsair Dominator GT 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17000C9 2133MHz Dual/Quad (1.5V)

Corsair AX 1200W PSU

XFX 7970 Black Ed in crossfire

Vcore: 1.4v

VCCIO: 1.08125v

CPU PLL: 1.71250v

VDIM: 1.5375v

Everything else on AUTO.

I've tried to get help with this but have not managed to resolve the issue.

So hoped you great people would help me as Tom mentions allot how help full

folks are here

Firstly, there was a problem highlighted that there was VDroop on Ram voltage and Vcore.

I was advised to increase the voltage on both until the reading is correct.

I've managed to get ram voltage at it's rated 1.5v by increasing it to 1.5375v in BIOS.

Testing with DMM and also the OCCT chart shows this as correct @ 1.51v.

I've also tried extra volts. The ram I have will take up to 1.9v. So I tested within the Intel max specs

@ 1.65V and I still was presented with errors.

OCCT was originally failing after 19mins. I disabled CStates and that seems to have helped.

Right at the moment (1.4v) I'm getting to 2-3 hours in before I get the errors and the test stops.

Max I've got is around 3hr 15mins in.

Vcore.... With an OC of 4.6Ghz which is what I've used for a while now.

I remember setting the Vcore at 1.38v and it been stable when I tested in the past using prime95

for several hours and also LinX pass.

I'm getting a fair amount of Vdroop under load. It drops to 1.36v (I have LLC at 75%).

I was advised to put the Vcore higher until the needed Vcore was maintained under load in OCCT/DMM.

I increased the Vcore to 1.4v which is maintained at idle. As soon as OCCT kicks in the stressing.

It drops to 1.39v according to the DMM and OCCT charts.

I did an over night memtest. And this morning there was no errors with ram.

Can anyone shed any light on what to look at next please?

I'm not advanced at OC'ing so any advice would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I'm not sure if it's ROG unique. But pressing F12 will ask where to save to if you have a USB pen drive inserted for example.

I have the same problem, I pass OCCT mode fine , but a few minutes in on LINPACK mode it crashes.

My system run fine under all other conditions, maybe something is not right with OCCT.

this is not unusual.

when you change from 2 sticks to 4 sticks of ram, OC's dont hold as well as it would with 2.

by populating 4 channels you are adding more work onto the cpu which has the memory controlled built in. so you may need more power (volts) to achieve the same clock.

think of it this way, if i suddenly put 10kg on your back, you would need to burn more energy to carry it around.

same concept but different context
