your about right there.

I believe the deal is you can only upgrade the mobo once. Any other component you can upgrade as many times as you like. If you want to move the OS from system to system (new builds or just new mobo), you should get the retail version.

I install lots of different motherboards all the time and setup a whole new system frequently for testing stuff. Then you need retail or keep ringing MS.
