OC3D Welcomes the Redline Redux Folding Team

You say that... but just finished my first Fold :) with a score of 6828 and a WU of 26 (no idea if that's good or not) but under team it says "Default (includes all those WU returned without valid team number) (0)" Understand I do not :(

EDIT: No worries it's registered now I'm now Team member 630 :)

Ah, good to hear.

ok peeps finally got the first few projects out of the way and now receiving some good bonus points. very addictive indeed, tempted to have a more systems folding

It definitely is an addiction (a good one).

It's definitely addictive! Although I'm only SMP folding because for some reason my GPU will not fold... set at Full it just sits there "running" but even after a full night folding it hasn't budged a smeggin inch still at 0.0%, while my trusty CPU is on it's 3rd WU

The screenshot you posted on the previous page is showing your GPU as "unknown", which is very strange. The client should automatically recognize your GPU.

Try this: go to to the Slots tab on the Configure menu, delete the GPU slot and re-add it. When you re-add the GPU slot make sure you have the relevant radio button selected.

Removed it and re-added it still zero activity from it even my desktop monitor shows nothing... I've checked the F@H white list and the HD6790 is supported.

This also happened to mine at the start, I'm not sure where I found the solution but try adding name: client-type and value: advanced under "configure folding slot - extra slot options".

This. I forgot to mention adding flags. You could also try a client-type of beta if the advanced flag doesn't help. I'm using client type:beta and I'm getting the really good WU's.

Well, I started folding, but I don't think I can contribute in anything. I have a A6-5400K and a GTX470 which is way too hot (85°C, considering it's been in the oven once). I have a 120mm fan that's bringing fresh air to the card, and a 120mm fan that's exhausting that with a PSU fan.

I still get 14k PPD, I don't know what to do. :shy:

Your card may need a clean/re-application of thermal paste. The PPD number doesn't matter. Any contribution to the cause is welcome. You have to remember it's a team effort :)

Thermal paste is new, I think one-two months old, and everything is fitted good. The problem is that this card is getting very hot in games, I think I need a new fan (about 2k RPM) right to the card because this fan is 1200RPM Scythe Kamaflow 120mm. Need something "louder".

Thanks man for the support! :)

EDIT: Forgot to ask, is it a problem if I keep it running in the night, or would I need to keep it all the time? It isn't a problem to keep it running all the time, just I'm asking because of the card.

Is your 470 using the reference blower design cooler? The 400 series cards are quite hot in general and from the limited number of reviews I've seen/read, 85 C seems to be a very reasonable temperature.

If you're comfortable with the temp & power consumption to PPD ratio, it's fine to continue folding :)

EDIT: To answer the question in your edit, it should be fine leaving the card to fold continuously. If you're worried about the health of the card, you can always fold part-time.

I have Windforce 470 SOC. :shy:
Well, I don't care for the temps and anything, just don't want my card to die, I love this card (don't get me wrong lawl).

I'm not getting particularly high PPD but every little bit contributes I've even got the missus folding now so she's no longer wasting my Q9000 laptop on playing cards on Facebook. :)

You just need to make sure the temperature's don't get excessively hot. The only other worry would be the fan's on the card. Two of the three fans on my previous card (Windforce 580) died, but that was after a year and a half of consistent folding. If you fold part-time, the fans would be an even smaller worry.

I hope they won't, that would be very bad.
I just started Folding, and I would like to fold all the time.
The thing is, like I said, this card has gone through the oven. It was baked. A month or two (before the paste was applied), and nobody knows if it will die soon. That's why I'm a little afraid to keep it running all the time.
And that, the card isn't mine, but it's like mine. It's in my rig from when it was baked.

If it happened to me, it doesn't mean it'll happen to you.

Since the card's been baked, it may be on it's last legs and sustained stress on the card would reduce it's health further. I wouldn't risk it personally, unless you're willing and able to spend money on a suitable replacement. We still appreciate the thought :)

Well, I won't fold with this card anymore, I'll fold with my 7540D for a while till I get a new GPU. That way I can fold all the time, even if I get low scores.

EDIT:
CRAP! 500 PPD with 7540D. I did not think it would be so bad.... From 14k to 500. Wow.

Hello guy's, I just started Folding for team 98860 as well and also asked my friends to fold for the same team.
I just got some questions about it left.

Are there some downsides to this that I should be watching?
I understand that I puts your CPU and GPU under stress during Folding, but my temps are fine I think (CPU 60-70 °C under full load and GPU 45-55 °C). But are there any other things I should worry about or keep watching?

I'm new to this and all tips are welcome!

Just keep an eye on the temps and you will be fine. The temps you have now are perfectly safe.

Edit: Welcome to the team!
