Nvidia's CEO, Jen-Hsun, has officially apologised for the recent issues with the GTX 970. Nvidia says they will never do it again and they should have detailed the new "features of Maxwell" from the beginning.

No apology for the reduced number of ROPs or L2 cache though... :/

Adding this to the current controversy surrounding G Sync, I think Nvidia have lost a bit of credibility.

I would say its weak excuse for a big f*ck up, if it is marketed as 4 gb (usable) then dont lie to the people if its not.

Nvidia needs to be kicked off their high horse with a flying spin kick for the better to all of us end users. Bad enough was the stuff with the Titan fiasko and people were still sucking Nvidias d*ck and then STILL buying the other newer Titans..

He co founded it. I always forget AMD have been around for years and years.

Yeah I know he co founded it with 2 other people, although not sure I get if you're being sarcastic or something with the last part.

But yes, AMD was founded in 1969 and Nvidia in 1993 (according to wikipedia atleast :p)

The RAM issue itself is so in front of the 970 issues that he 'forgot' to mention this detail.

What a joke. This and G-sync (what a fuck up, it was obvious it was going to happen too) have caused me to lose even more of the little respect I had for nvidia.

"We will never do it again" :yelrotflmao:

This part was the most hilarious though:

"Instead of being excited that we invented a way to increase memory of the GTX 970 from 3GB to 4GB, some were disappointed that we didn’t better describe the segmented nature of the architecture for that last 1GB of memory."

If they were really sorry, they would at least off some form of compensation to the 970 owners. In the CEOs mind, their customers are morons who will buy anything and forgive anything. Titan Z anyone?

I fucking knew it, It's just Nvidia covering their own asses, Nothing with come of that court case too.

So is Nvidia now saying that the GTX970 is really only a 3GB with 1GB of boost

What is the case really with the Titan Z?... I must have missed something, but have heard it several times now.

What was wrong with G-Sync? They did it first, implemented it well, it works... as far as new tech goes they couldn't have done much better.

They weren't the first to come up with it though. AMD was waiting for display scalar tech to improve enough to be able to apply Freesync along with getting VESA to adopt the standard.. Explains why no Freesync monitors are out yet. Nvidia instead of waiting just went ahead and made a custom scalar. Ya they went first to the market with it, it works. But in a way it's like Mantle. It showed the need and rather amazing things can do, like Mantle, and others that were working on it increased the R&D to get it out. Again similar to Mantle to DX12/OpenGL 2.0.. but of course they could always do better... everyone can:)

If I bought a 970, I honestly couldn't have cared, just once I get good smooth frame rates in games I'm not fussed.

We need more people like you around, some people are wanting to return their cards even though they wont be using enough vram for it to actually effect them. Not saying what they are doing is wrong or unreasonable, and to be honest I doubt it would have affected Nvidias decision to not take responsibility.
