I just wanted to get everyone opinion on this new card(1080ti im thinking) that they are announcing later today. Do you guys think that the new vega cards will beat it? Anyone waiting for vegas release to pull the trigger on a new card? I'm wondering cuz I'm ready for a new card or 2 and not sure I wanna wait for the vega release...

I just got a new 4k monitor... Going to be so hard to wait for it lol. My 980 ti struggles to keep 30fps... :(

As someone who's had 1080P, 1440P, 1600P, 4K and Ultrawide I honestly don't see the point in 4K over something like 1440P 16:9 or ultrawide, Just a massive waste of system resources.

When I gamed at 4K I had to take comparison screenshots of 1440P and 4K to actually tell the difference of 1 edge being ever so slightly smoother on an atomic level ^_^

I did back it down to 1440 to get it back to 60fps and still was an improvement over 1080p (first time for me above 1080p). I'm not asking for much right?!?... 60fps at 4k.... lol never a waste of resources haha. thats like saying your car has too much horsepower... no such thing! :D

If you get the chance look at a 1440P monitor and 4K monitor side by side running the same game, The difference is either minuscule or non existent, I did it a few times when I had a 4K monitor next to my 1440P monitor ^_^

TBH I don't really care what Nvidia announce because I know they are going to price me out any ways.

It's funny really. A lot of the forums I go on people were always jeering AMD and wishing for their demise. Look what we have now, totally ridiculous.

They're acting worse than Intel IMO. At least Intel upped all of their prices slowly. First bloody chance Nvidia got they were right in there with the lube.

And I can't over see that, so for me the GPU market has basically died. I get absolutely no pleasure from it at all.

Turkeys voting for Christmas comes to mind.

Feeling that way is very understandable. Hopefully when they release vega, they do it the same way they are doing ryzen... Undercut Nvidia price so bad and beat them on the performance. It should show everyone how they have been screwing us like intel has... Good to see competition though... should make us win in the end, at least I hope lol.

I can't see Vega standing up to the 1080ti. That's the problem. People will just point and laugh as they usually do when AMD release a GPU.

The problem is the "scene" is dying. How many topics do we have on here talking about GPUs?

Even at OCUK the GPU section has pretty much died on its posterior. It used to have loads of arguments etc now? it's "Who has a 1080? oh, OK".

Every one has pretty much written off Vega. I mean yeah if they pull a Ryzen? then sure things could change. Problem is they haven't spent five years on Vega.

I dunno man. We'll see I guess, but I have a sneaking suspicion that now Nvidia have pushed the prices up AMD will just charge per dollar for every mhz and frame per second that you get.

When Nvidia pushed GPUs to record highs with the 3gb GTX 580 AMD released the 7970 at the same price. Sure, it beat the 580 quite conclusively but £440?

I bought one and I regretted it. I guess for that much money I expected too much out of it. Got it in my PC "Oh, it's just a hot GPU".

I can't be spending £650 on a GPU. Especially when I used to make it my yearly purchase. £650 to play crap games with crap graphics hardly any better than before? yeah, hmm, nah.

And the next one is set to cost quite a bit more than that. I just don't find that exciting. Even the worst of the willy wavers on OCUK have not bought the Titan XP. They're all on 1080s, bored crapless because there's no one left to argue with.

I agree with what your saying, I just am trying to look at it as the glass is half full. I enjoy the hardware more then the games sometimes. Lets hope they got something good up there sleeve.;)

1080 takes a $100 price cut, 1080 Ti confirmed cheaper than a Titan X @ $699 and 35% faster with 11GB GDDR5X @ 11Gbps available next week.

The truth is, most of us want Vega to beat the 1080 Ti and really challenge the GPU market, but very few of us expect it to actually do so.

BUT, that's ok by me. So long as Vega can deliver close to the same performance at a lower price point then i'll probably put one in my new system when i build it, and pick up a QHD 144hz Freesync monitor while i'm at it.

On a side note, 2 points i'd like to raise about the 1080 Ti:

1 - I keep seeing the claim of a 35% increase over the 1080, but i seriously doubt it. That would put the performance of the Ti just above the Titan X (from what i've seen), and looking at the released spec's of the Ti i just don't see that being the case. Could be wrong, but i doubt it.

2 - I think its safe to say that Vega has Already had an impact on the GPU market, because i strongly suspect that the only reason the 1080 Ti isn't priced higher is because of the threat of Vega.

With what AMD 'appears' to have done with Ryzen (and we'll find out soon if they have pulled it off) i do have some faith in AMD to deliver a good product with Vega, and at a good price. If they do, then that to me is worth supporting.

I agree. I am also in the majority where we want Vega to topple the 1080ti, but don't think it is going to happen.

But like you Type, I don't have nor want to spend that much on a GPU of any sort from either brand or vendor anyway, so as long as Vega is competitive with say a 1070 at a great price point, It is really all I need.

Agree on the pricing, even if i wanted a 1080 Ti i simply won't spend that much on a GPU. In Aus I'll never see a 1080 Ti for under a grand, which is just insanity. I have decided that i'm willing to spend up near $1k on a good monitor, because i've never had a good one before and my current generic FHD monitor has lasted me 6 years. Some nice AOC ones i've got my eye on too.

But GPU's don't last as long as monitors.

So really, enough GPU horsepower to keep up with that will keep me happy, so long as the GPU price is 'reasonable'.

I'll probably be picking one up. One of my 780Ti's died a couple months ago so I've been struggling along with one, having to reduce settings to maintain a decent frame rate. More recent games are really starting to show just how long in the tooth the 780Ti is now. I was really hoping that AMD would be showing the goods a heck of a lot sooner, as I was seriously considering taking a look at Vega... however if they are still a couple months out and with some pretty big games releasing this month, I think I'll just pull the trigger and pick up a 1080Ti. I'll certainly take a critical look at the reviews and benchmarks, but if it hits 4k/60fps in most cases at that price point, I think it will be my next card.

I'm defiantly picking one up. I thought they said it was faster than a titen xp and 35% faster than the reg 1080, but I could be wrong. I agree with you guys on Vega not out performing the TI. I believe they did it this way (TI as strong or better than titen) to give them some time to release Volta and the TI to deal with what vega brings to the table. And yes I think its this price due to this hole ripple affect that is going on with ryzen :D
