Can anyone tell me the differance between mvidia cards and ati

For example I'm up for a new card this Xmas I'm torn between the gtx570 or the hd6950 but I'm unsure of which is quicker as the stats say the 6950 has more memory or cores ? Please explain

I would wait a week or so, AMD are about to release the most powerful gpu's in the world.

Hold on to your money a bit longer things are about to get hot.

Reviews have shown that AMD are about to make a massive leap in gpu performance, it would be a shame to spend money on old technology right know, as you could get somthing far better in a month or less.

Yeah thats good advice, the new AMD 7000's are just around the corner its worth waiting a little longer. If the cards are as good as the rumours then it will shake up nvidia's pricing structure as well.

save ur cash mate 2012 should be interesting but wait till there is hard numbers out there and not inflated bulldozer numbers...

fan boys were screaming about massive ownage and loads of performance screenies and 50% more power than an i7 9xx, in reality is was a epic fail just take all these 7000 claims with a pinch os salt till proper reviewers get them benched

Be nice if the 7000 series was the first to come out that is PCIe3.0. (but will 'work' in 2.0)

.. wonder if that's where all the numbers are coming from

If the large numbers are as a result of PCIe3.0 doesnt that imply PCIe2.0 is being maxed out by current cards? I thought there was pleanty of bandwidth still?

The benchmarks that were released yesterday were done on two rigs a MSI X79GD65 and an AMD FX board (can't remember the the model) so they were done on PCI-E 3 and PCI-E 2.

Maybe the big numbers are because the card is.... actually good

Not saying those benchmarks are 100% legit and you should take everything you see before release and proper reviews with a pinch of salt but it does my head in when people make out everything is shit just because they think it will be.

There is no conclusive proof either way of whether they are good or bad but at least wait and see before deciding they are crap

Some were definitely done on 3.0 mobos, some on 2.0, the numbers would have to be solid wouldn't they ? If we believe one, we'd have to believe the other for sure. Or do we take them being good with the same skepticism are them being bad

(7970 is good btw, people are testing them, not that straight forward tho)

If the large numbers are as a result of PCIe3.0 doesnt that imply PCIe2.0 is being maxed out by current cards? I thought there was pleanty of bandwidth still?

Bandwidth is a weird chestnut. SATA 3 and SATA 2 are good examples.
