nVIDIA to Unleash Fermi Tonight

'd love to get one, problem is: I need to buy new cpu, means new socket, means new mobo, means new ram

so it would cost me like a new pc :p

Lets put it this way the 480 is going to be a bucket load more than the 5870 which Nvidia have them selves admitted is its direct competition....... We'll have to see at 11:01 pm what card wins out..... :p

If the price is right, hd5870 owners will make the switch for the fastest single core gfx card. If the price is extortionate then nVidia will have to rely on fan-boys buying the cards. There are a lot of people who have been holding out for Fermi. Hopefully it is worth their wait.

Nobody wants the benchies then?

NB - Not ours, someone elses. But it's an indication maybe. Salt grains should be taken.

There are more from the same place, looking at the results that seem pretty sound I would price the gtx480 at 380 British pounds. Any more than that then 58570 looks more attractive!

just noticed the load temps on another website, your looking @ 93*c when the card is at full load :O

i think im going to wait for a little price war then make a choice on ati/nvidia.

Yes 93c is a joke!! and that is with a decreased core clock of 700mhz from the press speculation of 750 or so. 93c shows that nvidia are at the limit of the thermal capacity of the stock cooler, there will be no room for overclocking the card on the stock HS. Therefore a hd5870 @1000mhz core may be on the par with a gtx480 at max oc!!!

lowest gtx 480 price on scan is £428, no thanks nvidia!!! XD

average of 15% increase is not worth £120 in my eyes

Theres plus points and negative points tbh, have to remember the 480 is the fastest SINGLE core gpu on the planet. But there are negative points too, no matter what green fan boys will be buying these quicker than Nvid can make them.

I do belive the industry will be split on this one, even Im arguing with myself on this.

Well that was...disappointing. I was hoping that it'd be a lot better and stimulate some real competition, but the price doesn't reflect the performance. I think we'll have to see how things pan out. There will no doubt be driver optimisations on both sides (though nvidia should pip ATI here). Can't say I'm surprised at all this after months of little information and delays. What rumours did surface were not usually good. We'll see, though it's always good to have a new high end card out there.
