Nvidia system tools doesn't remember settings!

The Nvidia "system tools" utility which allows modifying the frequency, fan speed and possibly other parameters depending on the card in question does NOT save any parameters I tell it to modify.

The utility modifies the settings while I have a sessions of Windows executing, but upon a reboot the settings will be gone, despite having saved the settings to profiles and selected that "Yes I wish to apply these changes upon restart".

Does anyone have a solution for this issue?

Nvidia system tools version: 6.05

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

Card: GTX295 (latest drivers)

Might be a Win7 thing cos I got many Vista builds, even xp builds in the past, and it's always worked.

Need a Win7 expert for this me feels.

Normally there is a setting to "apply settings at start up" if thats not working make sure that it is actualy starting the program at start up aswell.

That program is a piece of ****.

I tried a different version (earlier), and it SET THE FAN SPEED TO 0, even though I selected it to be 55%, and I clicked YES to "apply these changes upon restart".

Even though I made the fan speed 55% that ****er set it to 0% -- i.e. no fan at all!

When I rebooted the fan went to 100% when it was no longer under the influence of the Windows driver, probably due to reaching nearly 100 degrees C!

I then tried the latest version again, it still wouldn't remember the settings, even though I have saved profiles and clicked yes yes yes, I want to remember these settings.

Eventually I saw that it would load by default:

c:\users\x86_1\appdata\local\NVIDIA Corporation\nTune\Profiles\osbootpf.nsu

So I saved the profile to that file, which at the time didn't exist yet. I rebooted, and it would remember the settings.

But with behavior as dangerous as this, such as setting the fan to 0, how can I trust this program? I'm afraid to start Windows at all now (I primarily use GNU/Linux) and have started to open up the cabinet to visually inspect if the fan is moving at all.

How have you guys resolved this issue?

The program doesn't have an option to start automatically when Windows starts, if I would put it in auto-start then that would make the application start up just as when I start it by hand, i.e. without having remembered any settings. In other words, this solution wouldn't work.

It'd normally just say it on exit, but u said in ur op that u'd already tried this.

B4 blaming the program, which works well btw, I'd be looking at ur install. Having the profile issuing tells me immediately that it's struggling over previous install settings. It also does this after being install after using RivaTuner and the user hasn't set the card's info back to defaults b4 uninstalling it. More of a dangerous program that is in the wrong hands.

U do get to a stage mind, using both of these tools, where the attempts to make oc changes get either flakier or not registering. I got this with the 1st 8800gt I tried in a benchtest. Version 6.05 of the nvidia tools dating back that far. If u need a more up2d8 oc tool, it'd be prudent to chase down the card manufacturers' tool.

After playing around with the NVIDIA Systems Tools settings, I figured out how to save and start with the prefer settings after Windows restart:

1. Go to your NVIDIA Control Panel.

2. On the left hand side, click on "Device Settings" under "Performance".

3. Adjust your "Custom" settings such as "Core clock", "Memory clock", and "Shader clock".

4. Once you have the desire numbers, a "Apply" and "Cancel" option should appear below. Obviously, click on "Apply" to save the settings.

5. Now, the "Save to profile" will become a selectable option, right above. Click on it, give your profile a name, and now you have a new profile.

6. Next, on the left side again click on "Profile policies".

7. Under "Take this action", put a check mark on "Load this profile". This will add the "Load this profile" to the white box, below, right-hand side that says "Take these actions:", "When these conditions meet:"

8. Under "When the following condition(s) is/are met:" white box are several options. Choose, "The system first starts Windows", and click on the -> arrow, to add it to the box to the right.

9. Now you should have something like this "Take these actions: Load this Profile. When these conditions meet: The system first starts Windows".

10. Do not press "Accept" yet. First, it's time to choose the profile by click on the word Profile that is in "Load this Profile".

11. A pop-up Window will appear and choose the profile that you created earlier in the step above.

12. Now, click on "Accept".

13. This will add the rules that you customize into the "Rules" box. Make sure ONLY one (1) rule is selected with a check and that should be "YOUR RULES" that you created. Duh! :-)

14. Restart your PC and now your settings should stay when you boot into Windows. Check for yourself.

Hope that helps, cuz it works for me. And sorry if the instruction is too long.
